Default Who are your favorite "non-mainstream" X-Men?

The X-Men have many characters, but some are so popular that they dominate the answers of "Favorite X-Men". While what qualifies as "mainstream" will vary based on the person, I'll let you judge for yourself. Generally, if they're on a '90s Jim Lee poster, they probably wouldn't count. These are people that some rando on the street or someone with only a superficial knowledge of X-Men are likely unaware of.

I'm talking about characters such as:

    Warpath
    Wolfsbane
    Blink
    Marrow
    Forge
    Longshot
    Sage
    Bishop
    Chamber
    Cannonball
    Maggott

I think you get the idea. Also, not just the X-Men, but their various splinter teams count as well.

So who are your favorite non-mainstream X-Men? Discuss.

Longshot. Hands down. One of my all time favorite characters, if not THE favorite.

I also have a love of Forge and a soft spot for Maggott.

From the X-Men, Marrow. I remember that comic that fights with Wolverine and she is awasome on that time. It's a shame that Alan Davis change that character on his run.

Outside the X-Men comics, Firestar and Justice from the time of the New Warriors, great dynamics between both and the rest of the team.

    Non-mainstream?

Sunspot. Moonstar. Madrox. Monet. Hellion. Dust. Wind-Dancer. Genesis. Indra. Loa. Bling! Shark Girl. Goldballs.

Oh yeah, my tastes are eclectic as hell, and I like some from just about every generation.

    Edit: Forgot Wind-Dancer!

Although X-23 is sort of on the borderline at this point. She'll have a lot more recognition outside comics fans after her appearance in Logan, however a lot of that is still just as "the girl from Logan."

    Rachel Summers

If we’re talking characters that never made it to an X-Men labeled squad:
    Captain Britain & Meggan

Depending on what you mean by "non-mainstream," I'd say characters like Warpath and Firestar are among my favorites. They rarely get a chance to shine, but when they do, they make their presence known. I like characters like that and I would love to see them get more recognition.

For "mainstream" X-Men, I would consider the Silver Age crew+ANAD crew+ Kitty, Rogue, Gambit and Psylocke. Basically anyone who was on the team when Byrne or Lee were drawing.

So beyond them, it would be the original 9 New Mutants

Most of my favorites are less than mainstream to some degree, I think.

Like, Madrox and Bishop aren't Wolverine or Cyclops, but they're fairly well-known. Even Legion, thanks to the show.

    But Shortpack? Lacuna?

    It's been a while since they've appeared.

-Pav, who still misses Nom the Silent King of the Giants...
You were Spider-Man then. You and Peter had agreed on it. But he came back right when you started feeling comfortable.
You know what it means when he comes back
    .

"You're not the better one, Peter. You're just older."

These conservations always devolve into arguing about who's A-List vs B- C- and D-List.

Husk would probably be at the top. Imagine describing her to someone who isn’t familiar w the comics...

Others coming to mind are Monet, Surge, Karma, Skids, Boom-Boom, .... Yeah oof

Polaris is a hard one. Her level of recognition fluctuates in different circles and she’s definitely gotten more exposure in both comics and other media than pretty much everyone else I listed . I guess she’s like 50% mainstream lol

But hell, Ive told people Kitty is my favourite x-man and gotten confused looks and there’s no question she’s mainstream lol. totally depends on who you’re talking to

Warpath. I really wish he would be included in a team, here’s hoping for X-Corp.

Monet, though her profile has risen in recent years.
