Default TV Shows that ended because an actor wanted to move on

A lot of good or great tv shows have ended because an actor or actress was tired of it or ready to move on to something else.

For example, Big Bang Theory ended because Jim Parsons (Sheldon) felt that the character had run its course and he wanted to do other things.

What are some other examples of this?

Hercules the Legendary Journeys would have been renewed for two more seasons but Kevin Sorbo wanted to move on. This was partly due to an injury but partly because he was in a relationship and wanted to be working in the States, not the other side of the world.

This is going way back but at the end of the 8th season, Bewitched had been renewed for two more seasons and was apparently the only show that ever beat All in the Family over a season or gave it a challenge. But one of the producers of the show was the husband of Elizabeth Montgomery, who played the main character. They were going through a divorce. So, basically, her ex-husband was her boss and, at that point, she just wanted out.

When Ted Danson announced he was leaving Cheers, the producers approached Woody Harrelson about continuing the show with him as the lead. Harrelson declined, and the show ended when Danson left.

Bea Arthur had to be persuaded to do a 7th and final season of The Golden Girls.

The other three actresses (Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty) spun off into the mediocre The Golden Palace, which lasted one season. Arthur did come aboard for an hour-long episode that reunited the four ladies.

Speaking of Bea Arthur, her first sitcom, Maude, ended after season 6 because Arthur wanted to move on, so the planned relocation to Washington DC for Season 7 was repurposed for a sitcom that starred Bill Macy (after two unaired attempts starring John Amos and Cleavon Little) called Hanging In, which lasted 4 episodes in Summer 1979.

Arrow would have continued, but Stephen Amell wanted to move on.

Does our reality determine our fiction or does our fiction determine our reality?

Whenever the question comes up about who some mysterious person is or who is behind something the answer will always be Frank Stallone.

I'm not sure if this counts, but the original Full House was gonna have a 9th season, but Candace Cameron was planning to go to college after season 8. Plus the show was being dropped by ABC and gonna be a different network which John Stamos didn't like, so he decided that the 8th season would be his last. After these two departures, the writers and producers just decided to end the show right there.

Friends ended because Jennifer Aniston wanted to work in films more.

When Susan Saint James left MCMILLAN & WIFE after five seasons, it continued as just MCMILLAN for one more season (six mystery movies), but it was not the same show. In addition to Sally, Mildred was gone, while Sgt. Enright had his role reduced (Nancy Walker and John Schuck were both on sitcoms). It was a mercy that the series was cancelled after that sixth season.

I remember when Fraiser first debuted there was a bit of a worry among some that it would end up like Golden Palace due to that show-also a spin-off -flopping shortly beforehand.

Married With Children and Christina Applegate was offered her own show-Kelly but declined.

The 90s Mickey Mouse Club. They wanted more but the kids wanted to move on.

Jennifer Lien's Phenom show on ABC was to be renewed but no one could agree on salaries. A few weeks later she was cast on some show called Star Trek Voyager.

My So-called Life-Claire Danes wanted to do movies.
