It's not even that. When I was younger, the whole point of the X-men was being above the pettiness of hatred. The outside world acted like lunatics, but the X-men didn't engage with it.
Back in the day, Emma was clearly in the wrong. She used her powers to assault protesters. The protesters were a bunch of idiots but that still didn't call for swatting them down with artificial orgasms.
These days? Emma is the hero, because the X-men have become reactionary and won't walk away from any perceived slight.
