Agreed. Classic is still best:
As for modern-day interpretations, this would be my favorite:
Thanks, and I agree with you. I would like for things to be kept as simple as possible with minimal tech. Too many additions might ruin a good thing, IMHO.

NAMOR
Aside from the current look, the animated character design for the "World's Greatest Heroes" Fantastic Four animated series is tops.
With the recent news of Smith/Quesada reuniting for a sequel to Guardian Devil,
I thought this would be a rather opportune time to celebrate one of their greatest achievements...
...turning Mysterio into a serious threat, while making him look cool.

I'm also a fan of the Individualised Uniform look for teams...when it's done right.

But Black Bolt in less of a hoodie/urban look as well like he had in Secret wars
I also like Namor’s current costume

The walking haystack.
I thought Nighthawk's then upgrades left something to be desired. The claws were an obvious rip from Wolverine. Sure, birds have talons, but this was the wrong direction. I wasn't a fan of the wing cannons, either, especially when you consider the degree angle at which Kyle had to fly in order to use them optimally. Plus, the question of where he housed the ammunition also perplexed me.
What I had hoped is that they would have given Kyle his own Shadow Cloak similar to Devil-Slayer's, albeit reshaped in the form of Kyle's traditional wing cape. Later still I thought that maybe Kyle's cloak would be the opposite number to Devil-Slayer's cloak. A Celestial Cloak which angelic beings wore, as where Devil-Slayer's Shadow Cloak was daemonic in origin. The cloak would enable him to fly, but like Devil-Slayer's cloak, it would also serve as a dimensional aperture that allowed Kyle to occasionally "warp" whenever he needed to travel long distances. The cloak would also have a quasi-sentient presence that fueled Kyle's strength, stamina, enhanced senses and gave him a slightly better than human healing factor. The presence would indirectly make Kyle resistant to psionic attack. Or something like that. At that time Marvel was going for more tech-oriented characters, rather than magic-based ones, so it doesn't surprise me that they went with the claws and wing cannons.
Anyway, apologies for the sidebar, back to the topic at hand....

I’m inclined to ask, has brightly colorful costumes largely lost favor with the public these days outside of long-term heroes like Captain America and Spider-Man? I get the feeling that more people these days are ready to favor costumes that have minimal/muted color usage and use black and white more.
Macendale becoming Hobgoblin may have been considered an upgrade, but I've always thought Jack O'Lantern was a great costume:
