Default Anyone else ever buy a series they weren't reading?

I somehow find myself putting together my monthly pull list and realizing I am pulling a title every month that I actually haven't read in months. Not one of those usual things where DC is late in shipping it (Shazam, Doomsday Clock…) but a title where I ordered issue #1 intending to read it and then ordered each month since. I've binge read about a dozen issues a few months ago. But even then I didn't read all the issues I'd backlogged. And since I didn't read say May 2019, I didn't read any other issue that came out after that. But somehow I keep ordering the new issue since I intend to catch up at some point.

I generally have my comics read the night I buy them or within a few days at most when it's a week where a lot of books ship. It's been years since I bought anything except a mini-series that I didn't read, and mini-series were a case of not liking issue #1 but having ordered another issue or two before the first issue shipped and I outright hated that. This is more of a "meh- not great but readable" reaction to a given issue where I'm not motivated to drop the book, but also not motivated to read the next issue immediately.

Just wondered if I am the only one finding myself wondering why I keep buying stuff (a single series) I am obviously not really invested in reading?

I didn't name the series just to avoid this becoming about the particular book rather than about that weird desire to buy things you are sort of interested in even when the cost seems to outweigh the return.

I do this as well. My "to be read" pile is pretty big now. I'm not currently pulling any DC comics but with Spider-man for example, I've got about 20 issues piled up to read. I keep meaning to get to them but time goes on and I don't, but I also don't want to remove it from my pull list. I'd be better off removing it from my pull list and buying the TPBs as they come out but I can't can't really explain why I won't do that lol.

I haven't finished Superman Golden Age Vol. 2 because most of the stories are regular problem solving that's meant to be read monthly and Batman Golden Age Vol. 2 because it's on digital and I forget.

If it's digital and I don't read it on one sitting, and it doesn't have porn, I forget.

I never forget paperback because I can see it on the shelves.

I still have to read Game of Thrones too now that I remember, big mistake buying 4 books at once at a discount, coz now it feels like a chore.

I've got a good couple issues of Lois Lane burning a hole in my pile that I haven't read.

You are not the only one.

For too long, I have been buying comics and not reading them; so I shortened my pull-list to 4 comics.

I still don’t read them…but it’s a lot less expensive. Two of them are 12 issue maxi-series; when they end, I will save more money.

This may just be a phase. I may suddenly wish to binge on the unread issues. I hope so.

I know I still love DC characters. I just may not love DC stories currently.

Batman Beyond. I've been collecting that regularly since it was relaunched with Dan Jurgens around the DC You period (or just before?).

It's not bad as such but there's a huge chunk of it that I've just never gotten round to.

I've never bought a comic that I didn't plan on reading. Unfortunately, my to read pile is pretty large right now. One day I hope to have time where I can just sit around and knock a big chunk out.

The only time I ever continue to collect a series I no longer read is if I know it's ending within a few months and want to finish it out for sake of completeness. Otherwise, what's the point of buying it?

Back when I was a slave to the system and had to pre-order everything three months ahead, yes.
I would end up with two or three issues of multiple series that I was obligated to buy because I ordered them on the strength of a promo solicit for the first issue.
Then after I got the first issue and read it, and discovered I didn't care that much for it, I still had two or three other issues already pre-ordered.

Now, I mostly only buy if I'm going to read it right then.
Although, I will buy a digital collection of something that interests me if it's on sale real cheap, and then set it aside for reading later.
Sales don't always correspond with current interests.

Nope! Comics are expensive so if I’m buying it, I’m reading it.

Sadly, I'm not actively reading 1/3 of the books on my pull list.

This includes all of the Sandman Universe titles (5), and all of the current X-Men titles (5). I never read past #1 for any of them, yet have every issue sitting on my shelf... *facepalm*

This is why I like digital so much. Even if it means I'm months behind on the "what's happening now" stuff.

I've done it sometimes. Usually it's more of a situation where I want to read it but just put it off. Marvel's Runaways revival is the only case I can think of where I'm still getting the stuff even through I've kinda lost interest in the new direction.
