Going by the manga here, because that's the more up to date version of both.

I'm pretty certain that Tanjiro is quite a bit faster than Izuku so he should just be able to blitz him and take his head off.

If Izuku could land a hit on Tanjiro he'd take him out but he's not going to get the chance.
