That does happen and sometimes movies making money get it done to them.
In most cases it due to the following-
Another movie is set to be in that slot.
The movie is not doing as good in certain areas and was probably going to be removed anyway.
That is how long it was suppose to show in some places.
I would look to see which theaters are taking it out of theaters.
Are they in areas where something like another event (High school football) would hurt profits?
Are the theaters the ones where you can dine and eat?
Are they some of the more upscale ones that you have to reserve seats no matter what?
Is Covid an issue??? I am thinking of one area of Dallas that has two theaters and Covid is TEARING UP that area and is near a major college and pretty much where international citizens setup shop and home. That is a lot of out of town folks and a high traffic area that has seen some places close due to Covid.
Candyman made $1.9m on thurs.

Bootlegs have killed luca in china. The bootlegs you guessed it came from disney plus.
Free guy fared alittle better in china however.Luca opened with a $5.5 million weekend and (unlike Soul) didn’t soar to infinity and beyond in weekend two. It earned just $2.6 million on its second Friday, partially due to pristine Disney+ copies floating around pirate-infested waters since June. As such, a $5 million opening day for Free Guy counts as “measured optimism.” With decent word-of-mouth (9.2 on Maoyan and 9.0 on Taopiaopiao), we could see an over/under $20 million debut weekend.
In america free guy hit $65m in america.Anyway, Free Guy also nabbed a decent $5.36 million opening day in China. Hollywood has recently been mostly on the outs with Chinese moviegoers, save for surefire blockbusters like Godzilla Vs. Kong ($188 million) and F9 ($216 million). To be fair, most of the 2020 output was much-delayed Covid casualties (1917, Dolittle, Bad Boys for Life, Sonic the Hedgehog).

Candyman $20.7m. Free guy $14m. Paw patrol $6.5m and american total of $23.97m.
Others---
https://variety.com/2021/film/box-of...nd-1235051070/Rounding out the top five are Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” and Sony’s “Don’t Breathe 2,” earning an expected $4.7 million and $2.5 million, respectively. If the films meet their box office projections, “Jungle Cruise’s” cume will grow to an impressive $99.8 million, while “Don’t Breathe 2” will reach $24.25 million.

Tolstoy will live forever. Some people do. But that's not enough. It's not the length of a life that matters, just the depth of it. The chances we take. The paths we choose. How we go on when our hearts break. Hearts always break and so we bend with our hearts. And we sway. But in the end what matters is that we loved... and lived.
People keep acting like 20 million dollar openings are good. None of these films are doing as wells they should. Day and date may be hurting theaters, but these companies are more interested in their bottom line. Disney raking in huge cash with streaming. Thats what they care about. Disney is increasing its subscriber base by 15 to 20 million every quarter. Thats 120 million in new revenue direct every quarter.
The share holders at Disney want to know about the bottom line. How a movie makes money doesn't concern them. Just that Disney is pulling in more revenue by streaming, and theme parks and merchandise. Thats what share holders want to know about.

Hollywood right now does see $20m as good. In fact universal was praising candymans box office. Heck paramount bragged about paw patrols box office and it just now hit $20m.
Speaking of $20m free guy hits $24m in china. It's up to $155m ww.

Of course a 20m+ opening for a movie with a 25m budget is considered good in any time as the movie will at least break even in the end and that's what it's all about.
