There's no reason for you to have heard of any movie exclusively made for China. They're not banking on you seeing it. They have a captive audience and have their own theatrical system.

From now on when we look at the worldwide numbers, I think we should have two sets of numbers. One that includes China and one that excludes China. It's such a large market and yet so unreliable that, when it's included in the worldwide box office, it distorts our perception of reality.

I don't get your point. We have numbers for Domestic (U.S.A. and Canada, but not Mexico) and we have numbers for Worldwide. What's wrong with having other numbers, so we can better understand the breakdown of the numbers? We know that the government in China is doing some weird things with their numbers, so they aren't reliable. And China is its own domestic market--yet the number is so large that it inflates the box office. It's like trying to see all the planets in the sky while looking at the sun--you're not seeing how the movie is doing everywhere else in the world, because you're blinded by a population of one billion people under a single government.

I want to see Kong vs Godzilla so bad, but in Germany almost every cinema is still closed. I guess I get spoiled who ins the fight before I can see it on the big screen.

Do to wb pushing it back demon slayer will now have to fight mortal kombat at the box office!

This post has someone who works at a big theatre and says this--

At the theater i work at we've sold out basically every showing on Thursday and Friday, Saturday is doing decently as well with some showings nearing half.

Many reports are saying the ds pre tickets sold out at many theatres. However mortal kombat is going after the same crowd! Can ds beat mortal kombat at the box office or will kombat "finish him!" ds the box office? WB pushing mk back may hurt ds at the box office or the other way around! It might have been a bad move to push mk back a week wb!

    Edit--

Demon slayer pre ticket sales in america has beat gvk pre-ticket sales first night!

$5m expected thurs with $11m for weekend. Would have been more but mortal kombat messed that up.

GVK hits $80m in america alone! $300m ww.

    Tom and jerry--

Rounding out the top five is Warner Bros.’ “Tom and Jerry,” an animated/live-action hybrid about the infamous cat and mouse duo. It pulled in $1.1 million from 2,028 locations, bringing its North American tally to $42 million. Like “Godzilla vs. Kong,” the film is also available on HBO Max for 31 days. Globally “Tom and Jerry” hit a notable box office milestone, surpassing $100 million in ticket sales.

Detective conan crushed it overseas. $38m or more ww.

While it has dominated global play over the past few weeks, GVK this session ceded the top spot to Toho’s Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet. The 24th movie in the long-running anime franchise bowed in Japan and China as well as a handful of other markets, and our sources are estimating a $35M-$38M opening weekend. Numbers for Japan will be updated on Monday, but in the meantime, The Scarlet Bullet was No. 1 in China with an estimated RMB 109.6M ($16.8M). The film is carrying an 8.6 on Maoyan, but a lower 6.1 from reviews site Douban.

Following the recent success of Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train (which releases in North America next Friday), Japan has been on a hot streak of late, notably with IMAX screens. The Japan IMAX opening on The Scarlet Bullet was $1.2M from 38 screens for a $32K per-screen average. This is the 3rd best debut for IMAX in the market during the pandemic era and the 4th best for a local title ever. It is further the 8th biggest IMAX debut of all time in the market, overtaking Rogue One and The Force Awakens. This despite emergency measures enacted in some areas last weekend owing to Covid, and Osaka seeing spikes in the past several days.

Directed by Tomoka Nagaoka, the latest story of the boy detective was originally due to be released in April 2020, but was delayed by the pandemic. Up to 2020, a new Detective Conan movie had been released every year. The last was Detective Conan: The Fist Of Blue Sapphire which grossed nearly $90M in the home market.

    https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-ne...argest-opening

In a three-day total, the 110-minute film earned 2,218,130,800 yen (about 20 million USD) on 1,533,054 admissions, 117.5 percent of that of the previous 23rd film The Fist of Blue Sapphire released in April 2019, which made 9.37 billion yen (86 million USD) from its total domestic run.

Toho, the distributor of the film, has announced that The Scarlet Bullet will not only break the record for the highest-grossing film in the franchise for the eighth consecutive year, but is sure to exceed the 10 billion yen mark for the first time.

I don't blame Warner for delaying Mortal Kombat to allow Godzilla vs Kong to bask in being #1 for 3 weekends and be the pandemic release to get closer to 100 million domestic.

But now I wonder if this weekend's #1 and #2 will have to truly test their might.
