California Closes All Movie Theaters For The Foreseeable Future.

Say goodbye to the summer movie season since it’s officially dead.

Just restart the clock next March. That will be the new March 2020 and all the movies that were supposed to come out in the old 2020 will now come out in the new 2020.

Also in news looks like scoob is in first place at the box office worldwide. Should have waited and not thrown it dtv in america wb. It took 900k in one country and $1.8M total in five markets.

WB screwed up. Should have waited.

As the international box office slowly limps back to life, the tendency for audiences to lean into fresh and local titles continues. France, for example, saw a 23% increase in ticket sales across the Top 10 over the most recent weekend, led by Gaumont’s new local comedy Tout Simplement Noir and followed by Warner Bros’ Scoob!, also a new entry, which did $900K in the Hexagon – and $1.8M total in five markets.

Scoob! led play in the market, woofing up $319K from 124 cinemas. Last week’s No. 1, local family pic Pirates Down The Street, added another $143K from 122 sites and has cumed $444K. The Top 10 titles generated $1.18M, a slight 6% increase from last session. Capacity and social distancing restrictions are being eased gradually, although the current amount of seats and shows is only about 35%-40% of normal.

Eh, the reviews weren't great so it's doubtful that if it was screening against normal competition it would have done as well.

Alot of films the critics hated like aladdin still did great. Scooby doo is still big here like spongebob (it's going to vod also even after the first two films were hits worldwide. They are also messing up. Wonder if they will change their mind) so i'm sure it would have done well here. WB should have waited. Heck my sister is not a big cartoon fan and she was planning to go see it!

Also china reopening it's movie in low risk areas july 20th. Imax looking to expand in china also and japan movies are all open again it looks like.

Rotten Tomatoes audience scores: Aladdin 94%, Scoob! 58%
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

This is not due to the virus in america this time. China has just made a no over 2 hour movies rule. Tenet is 30 min over 2 hours! We knew wb was going to do that this time.

Humm? I would think it's a combination of both then. US and China.

A strategy to limit the amount of time people spend together in an enclosed space? Interesting. I doubt that sort of rule would work in the States, studios and filmmakers would go nuclear if that happened.

China's first day of box office made over $500k on first day!

    https://deadline.com/2020/07/china-c...us-1202989499/

As Chinese cinemas began the reopening process today, box office crossed $472K by 8PM local. Maoyan’s real-time ticketing platform reports that play is led by new entry A First Farewell at around $184K. Following it is the re-issue of Christmas title Sheep Without A Shepherd at about $80K and Disney/Pixar’s Coco in 3rd with just over $42K.
