For the first time in a long time drive ins count for the weekly box office! Not only that but they have went back and counted the last few weeks as well!

The last 9 weeks no 1 was trolls world tour! Universal gets the last laugh! It's movie is offically no 1 for 9 weeks!

It has been topped this week. In first place is the 90s film jurassic park back in first place! In second place jaws!

Goonies, et and back to the future return to the top 10 also!

    https://deadline.com/2020/06/weekend...ws-1202966822/

    5..The Hunt (Uni) 95 (+12) theaters, 3-day: $136,700 (-40%), cume: $8.4M/Wk 15

    6..Back to the Future (Uni) 122 theaters (+91), 3-day: $131,600 (-50%)/Running lifetime cume: $214.3M/wk 1,825

    7. Followed (Global) 42 theaters, 3-day: $127,231/Wk 1

    8..E.T. (Uni) 100 theaters (+22), 3-day: $126,100 (-35%)/lifetime cume: $435.4M/Wk 1,985

    10..The Goonies (WB) 170 theaters (+34) 3-day: $110,850 (-28%), lifetime cume: $65.6M/Wk 1,829

So universal gets a win and 80s and 90s films are back in the top 10 box office! Next few weeks wonder woman and spider-verse as well as wizard of oz and kiki's delivery service are all getting rereleases. Kind of crazy.

It also shows again how big drive ins are getting again.

That is 1% of what blockbusters make on a big weekend. This won't help the Studios.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

If that is the B.O. studios will get without theaters, it is meaningless and not change decisions on whether to release or not. Making $500,000 in a weekend when they need $50 million is no more than an accounting error.

Not every movie is made for 50 million.

For some this works out for.

The drive in near where I live has two screens doing double features on both. I am thinking about going this week because on screen #1 they are having a Ferris Buellers Day Off/Breakfast Club double feature. Pure 80's goodness there.

So what movie would be satisfied with a few hundred thousand at a Drive-In. If some small art film would be shown in one?

I think Trolls is a better indication. They def did big business maybe they would have grossed more with theaters. But they still made a bigger profit because they don't have to pay theaters. I still want theaters to come back tho, i like the movie going experience.

Trolls did well with VOD, which is a different discussion, we were specifically talking about Drive In theaters. Trolls made $77 million, of that $3.9 was from Drive Ins. 5% of the gross. Drive Ins will not make a difference.

Scoob heading to the big screen after all--in europe.

As for trolls world tour it's getting a europe release also--

Meanwhile, Trolls World Tour hasn’t finished its theatrical run. It ranked seventh at the American box office this weekend, taking all of $138,000 (estimated). It is also among the 450 titles set to be shown in U.K. theaters when they reopen — probably on July 4.
