Thread: The Box Office

Speaking of Tenet, ironically that movie had more international markets open during its run last year than BW has now. But as the studios get a higher share from US box office than from international markets a release in 2021 is still likely to become more profitable than last year.
Tolstoy will live forever. Some people do. But that's not enough. It's not the length of a life that matters, just the depth of it. The chances we take. The paths we choose. How we go on when our hearts break. Hearts always break and so we bend with our hearts. And we sway. But in the end what matters is that we loved... and lived.

That film also was meant to "save" movie theaters...

Well this is where we are going into the weekend which most likely will suck at the box office

    F9- 158.6 million
    A quiet place 2- 156.2 million
    Black Widow-143.2 millón
    Godzilla v Kong- 100.5 million
    Cruella- 84.2 million

One odd note is Space Jam 2 hasn't released any numbers since last weekend. I don't know why that is. Not sure I have seen that before.

It has, SJ2 stands at 41.9 milllion before its second weekend. If you are looking on Box Office Mojo they are sometimes sloppy with updating numbers, they also still haven't updated BW's international cume which has passed 130 million last weekend.

From monday until thursday SJ2 made less than BW so it's expected that they will switch places this weekend. Top spots will most likely go to the newcomers Old and Snake Eyes though.

Thanks to bad reviews looks like snake eyes will lose to old this weekend!

    M. Night Shyamalan is looking at another No. 1 domestic opening with Old, which looks to be earning an estimated $6.5M on Friday. Including Thursday previews, it’s on its way to a $15 million three-day gross at 3,355 theaters.

If Old stays on track this weekend, it will rep the filmmaker’s sixth No. 1 debut after The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, Split and Glass. In a box office that continues to be ruled by brands, Old is a completely original film, which is important to note. That said, Old is also bound to be Shyamalan’s lowest wide-release opening at the domestic box office, charting below 2006’s Lady in the Water ($18M).

Paramount’s Snake Eyes is taking second with $5M for today and a $12.5M opening at 3,521 theaters. While Paramount provided a steady stream of Transformers movies between 2007 and 2018, G.I. Joe films have been spread farther apart, the last movie Retaliation being eight years ago.

On the theatrical-day-and-date homefront, Disney’s Black Widow looks to be down 60% in weekend 3 with $10.4M, while Warner Bros’ Space Jam: A New Legacy, after a $31.05M opening weekend, looks to be even lower.

Warner Bros’ second weekend of Space Jam: A New Legacy and Disney’s third weekend of Black Widow, which are also available on their respective studios’ streaming platforms, could mess up the one-two ranking of Old and Snake Eyes. Space Jam 2 is expecting a 48%-58% second-weekend decline between $13 million-$16 million, while Black Widow‘s third weekend is figured at a 45% decline for $14M. Black Widow has been beating Space Jam 2 at the daily box office from Monday to Thursday. Last night, the MCU origin movie posted an estimated $2.3M to Space Jam 2‘s $2.06M; their respective running cumes being $143.1M and $41.9M.

It’s Warners not the sites. They haven’t been consistently releasing daily numbers for their movies for a while.

Waiting for the weekend numbers but looks like snake eyes bombed! Well the gijoe fans have rejected the film over how they made snake eyes act in the film and what people found out about the outfit in the film so the toyline is on it's own without the hardcore joe fans!

Things are not looking good for snake-eyes! We will find out in a few hours.

Snake eyes bombed. Total weekend performance 13.5 million. On the other hand every thing bombed. So it is what it is.

Well like predicted the entire box office was a disaster this weekend. The highest grossing movie was Old, with 16.5 million for the whole weekend. Snake eyes made 13.3 million and BW came in third with 11 million

    These are updated yearly totals

    F-9- 163.2
    A quiet place part 2- 157.5
    Black Widow- 154.8
    Godzilla vs Kong- 100.5
    Cruella-84.6

You are using the term "bombed" in a far too inflationary way. The majority of the current top ten can not be described as box office bombs at all.

Well 13.5 million for the weekend isn't good but all of this is pandemic driven so you are not wrong. Lets just say it made 13.5 million. It is what it is.

but the post only described Snake Eyes to have "bombed" and not all current top tens
