WB has announced that all movies in 2021 will release on HBO Max and theaters on the same day.
Another major blow to movie theaters.

Streaming is the future and the future is now. There has a movement toward streaming and away from theaters even before Covid-19. It’s a bad thing for the consumers, but it’s make financial sense for the studios. Direct to consumers and cutting out the middle man(theaters) means big profit for the studios. We are witnessing a cultural swift.

With all of these streaming services popping up is anyone else thinking that the consumer is going to get screwed coming up. We are already seeing increasing internet prices and the streaming services that have been around for a while (netflix, prime, hulu, etc) keep raising their prices. Not to mention the live tv services are doing price increases as well every year (youtube, sling, att tv, etc). While streaming is a good deal now, I think we are going to in a worse position than cable pricing in the future and unfortunately due to work and school obligations many people can't just cut internet like they could cable.

It's better for theaters than everything getting delayed and nothing being released at all.

Exactly. And the two biggest studios Disney and WB are leading the way.

Either way it’s a death blow to the movie theaters. No one is going to a theater to risk their health and/or life for Wonder Woman when they can watch it safely at home.

I hope streaming isn't the future. There needs to be a preservation of the magic of going to cinema, more so than ever after this terrible pandemic.
