Black widow made $80m in america and another $70m ww. Note that we do know a little of the disney plus numbers this time and all three combined black widow made $215m this weekend! (note that they are saying if disney did not put it on plus it would have passed $100m in america in theatres.)
Disney states that the combined theatrical and Disney+ Premier Access opening makes Black Widow the only film to surpass $100M in domestic consumer spend on opening weekend since the start of the pandemic. Disney reports that the combined dollars on Black Widow‘s opening weekend marks the highest domestic opening weekend for a Marvel Cinematic Universe origin story after Black Panther ($202M 3-day) and Captain Marvel ($153.4M)
“Once again, Marvel has delivered an exceptional film to the delight of fans worldwide with Black Widow achieving numerous milestones in the current marketplace,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, in a statement. “Black Widow’s strong performance this weekend affirms our flexible distribution strategy of making franchise films available in theaters for a true cinematic experience and, as COVID concerns continue globally, providing choice to consumers who prefer to watch at home on Disney+.”
“It’s incredible to see audiences enjoying Black Widow after two years without a new Marvel Studios film, and this spectacular opening weekend shows just how eager fans have been to see this beloved Avenger in her own story. There’s no question it’s been worth the wait – Cate Shortland, Scarlett Johansson, and the Marvel Studios team have delivered an exceptional film that continues a legacy of creative excellence as the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands and enters a new era,” added Alan Bergman, Chairman, Disney Studios Content. Now, Mr. Chapek, don’t go killing golden gooses. It’s premium cinema IP that makes us want to watch it in the home. As you said, back on Disney Investor Day in December, when it came to the grease that runs the Disney+ conveyor belt, “We had a $13 billion box office [in 2019], and that’s not something to sneeze at. We built those franchises through the theatrical window.”https://deadline.com/2021/07/black-w...ce-1234789473/Here’s what happened to the top 10:

80 Million for Black Widow seems lower than expected but still a very chunkable earning.
The thing made 215 million in 3 freaking days. 60 million streaming which goes right to Disney. Black Widow could literally be the most profitable marvel movie ever made if it brings in another 60 million streaming.
Disney stock is taking off like a rocket ship on this news today.
Massive opening for BW.
One could only imagine how huge it would have been if not for the pandemic.
It would likely have crossed $100m easily in North America alone.
It would have if they was no streaming also. They said that if there was no plus access (and note some counties theatres banned black widow over disney plus so it would have made more world wide without the ban) disney would have made around $130 to $160m in american theatres alone! In fact disney lost money due to disney plus!
Also again people are saying there is a reason this is the only time disney listed the plus numbers. The other films on access did not make what disney wanted (what was disneys aim anyways?) or did awful. This is the first film in four to do well where disney was not embarrassed by it and told the numbers!
So great for disney but plus did hurt it's box office this time! (even deadline called disney out over hurting itself again!)
With that said that's still great numbers for widow. I'm sure disney is happy with the numbers.
Up next week escape room 2 and space jam 2.
John and rob talks about the past disney plus numbers here.
Hey as you said even if it did cut into the box office $80m is still great.
I wonder if ScarJo gets the same percentage from streaming as she does from theaters?
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
