And yes both main leads are returning as is the writer and director.

Disney is jumping all in on this ip!
I'm holding my breath more for the next Cruella and Free Guy flicks, but I wouldn't mind another JC either.

When I saw this news I went WOW. It amazing that this is a first in 2021. Also it looks as if the movie is actually been praised for a lot of good film making choices. Congrats Nia.
I assume she'll have a second by the time her Captain Marvel sequel debuts.

And yet, A QUIET PLACE PART II is the only one of those I've gone to see. And I doubt I'm ever going to see the others. Clearly, I don't belong at the cool kids' table.

Of those 7 listed, I only saw GvK - and I really wish I hadn't. Trust me, you missed nothing of value. It's the kind of movie best viewed by never watching the movie itself, only the fight clips uploaded to youtube. I kind of got the sense that the movie was made with the intent you only watch the fight scenes.

I have seen Black Widow and Jungle Cruise on Disney +. I still have to watch cruella its on there as well. I guess Free Guy is technically Disney now to. I wonder if that will come to Disney plus. I know this 20th century Fox stuff is confusing

Well at least the list shows what franchises are still safe to drive people to theaters in uncertain times (Fast & Furious, Marvel, Monsters, Rock in a jungle). At least there's a brand new horror franchise in there, and Cruella and Free Guy are slight surprises as well (Fox movies hadn't been setting the box office on fire in recent times, other than Deadpool 2 and Bohemian Rhapsody).

Free Guy will actually debut on HBO Max first due to deal shenanigans. I assume if they make a sequel it'll be a full Disney release by then.

Yeah that pesky HBO max fox deal. My guess it heads to hbo max like new mutants first unless disney pays wb to get it early.

I am assuming that is just for a few 20th century Fox movies the most recent ones correct?

Not confirmed by box office mojo yet but it's getting reported shang chi thurs night showing made $8.8M in america.

    Edit-confirmed.

We had been hearing that advance ticket sales were running ahead of F9 and A Quiet Place Part II, so Shang-Chi‘s Thursday makes sense.

Shang chi made 29 million for Thursday and Friday. Not to shabby I guess for pandemic opening. Some outlets are saying a 70 million opening weekend looks possible. I guess the question Disney would have is if they did same day streaming would it have done as well and how much streaming money did they miss out on. I have no idea how they would figure that out.

Shang chi may make $85m this weekend.

Shang-Chi is a win for the theatrical experience at a time in which the delta variant continues to hamper attendance and day-and-date releases on streaming services have roiled the exhibition business. Unlike previous Marvel release Black Widow, which premiered day-and-date in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access, Shang-Chi will have an exclusive 45-day theatrical release. To date, Black Widow has earned $371.3 million at the global box office and sparked a lawsuit from star Scarlett Johansson, who argued the move hurt the box office in favor of feeding Disney’s streaming service.

Simultaneous releases and Shang-Chi were hot topics at CinemaCon last week, as Disney CEO Bob Chapek has indicated the film will inform the studio’s release strategy going forward. While introducing a screening of Shang-Chi, Rolando Rodriguez, chairman of the National Association of Theatre Owners, urged theater owners to do what they could to help it perform.

“Call it an ask from your chairman of NATO. This is important to all of us,” said Rodriguez. “It’s going to be a great showing from us, to our fantastic friends at the Walt Disney Company … to show them the importance of theatrical exhibition.”

Even with the disney plus access jungle cruise gaining more ground with $107m. Candyman will make just above don't breathes 2016 box office for it's second week. Space jam crosses $70m.

It's (in part, being in theaters only and being good shouldn't hurt) because this particular weekend has always been ho-hum for box office numbers. Shang-Chi is kinda doing what Bad Boys for Life (the biggest Hollywood blockbuster before the pandemic) did in January last year.
