Kevin McKidd as Banshee, mutant Interpol. Master Mold advance team. Dead by the first act.
Jamie Dornan is another option though. He's actually Irish too. He's a touch on the young side now, but in the 4-5 years it takes to get these things going, he'll be perfect(I guess after a dyejob).
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
Prettyboy!
Yeah disappointing that McKidd's Scottish, I just like his look.
It's possible that Banshee survives the Master Mold attack, but I need to see some severe X-Men fall early on. I was going to have him, T-Bird and Sunfire all wink out early in a X-SEALS type mission, which requires the old pros to rally and investigate.
Yeah, McKidd looks awesome, but getting a Scotsman to play an Irish man is just asking for trouble.
I think your alternative imaginings are interesting, but I would use the real canon as a closer guide. If you want to kill some operatives, use characters like Changeling, Mimic, Sway, Petra, Vulcan, Darwin, whatever, characters that don't really have a lot of narrative ties anyways. Banshee in particular is too useful to waste like that.

Moira's lover. Siryn's father. Black Tom's rival. Generation X's mentor. Lord of Cassidy Keep? You dare take that away from him? Enough with your revisionism! I can't with you anymore!

Prof. Xavier.
Generation X Season 1 villain, Season 2 main cast.
Mr. Summers.
I dare. And much, much more.
The world will be made right by my hand. Tremble before my ultimate days of future crisis.
Karma is Kwannon. Mister Sinister is MOJO. Polaris is Legion. Sunfire is closeted. Forge is Canadian!
Man, I look at Colin Salman as Professor Xavier and I think, "What if there was never an Amal Farouk, and Professor X *was* the Shadow King (but doesn't consciously know it, and he's also Cassandra Nova, to boot!) and Legion is just following in dad's footsteps, having all those personalities?"
This thread is all the fun :-D
You're kidding, right? O_o
I've got to admit I've never watch him in a movie, but I'm googling him and the photos give me the chills -_- I know all of this is a matter of personal taste, but for me he's corny as hell. No thanks.
I've often said that my only choice for Longshot is Ewan McGregor. He's got the perfect mix of joy and melancholy (and loads of friendliness).
In a more Silvestri mood, I think Stewart Copeland would be great.
