Oh gosh, I did not expect this! There were so many good covers and I forgot to vote! I put it off but then was busy the whole day (when i took a day off from work at that) that I completely forgot. Thank you for the vote, and I'll come up with a new contest.

Congratulations to Ravin' Ray four a fantastic, marvelous cover. This issue was a bold and powerful statement. It was revolutionary at the time and I once again ignored social movement for a joke. For a person who extols the Kirk/Uhura kiss as well as the Petula/Harry Belafonte touch, it's unfortunate I neglect to reflect on the importance of such occurrences. Well chosen, Ray. You rock in a bashful Benjy sorta way. What? I didn't say I was giving up the Dad jokes totally.

As to the lesser (for this week anyway) captain's learning experience, he has noticed the problems some had with characters in their first appearances not being on the cover. They were less corporate times and the concept of running anything up the flagpole and seeing who salutes it was business as usual. Are we getting better stories now that new characters are built up in solicitations like this new Joker henchperson? I'm not sure, but I gotta go; there are kids that need to get off my lawn.

Congrats Ray, and let's all be glad BP lost the cape.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Agreed. That was NOT a good look, ditto for Steve Rogers WAAAAAAAAAY back when he was relieved of the shield and first trotted out the Nomad costume.

    Congrats Ravin Ray!

I actually own a copy of that issue, picked it up in a thrift store when I was a lad

I remember maybe 10 years ago or thereabouts when Marvel put out a new printing of that issue. It was pretty authentic looking too. Nowadays they do these True Believer issues for $1.00 that are nice to have too.

    And Congratulations Ravin' Ray!

Wasn't it brought back briefly in the Priest run? Seems like I've seen it pop up somewhere
