Sam and Paige are showing free will because they are less indoctrinated. Melody doesn't because she is more indoctrinated.
"Krakoa will keep you safe!"We aren't arguing about what a cult generally is, we are talking about if this situation is cult. These people are making clear coherent choices AND unlike real life cult they are fulfilling their promises.

Krakoa does seem to be taking its defences much to lightly though x men 8 does seem to suggest rather more organisation than in the past.
Their only defensive ability lies with their powers so we really should see them training in a mass coordinated effort rather than one on one combat.
And we need to see the villains contribute .
Of course , when it comes to orgies they are unbeatable.

I think that the new status quo is more centered around how mutants have decided to deal with the various problems that have contributed to their collective extermination. This means that some tactics are now being incorporated to set in place a sort of culture and rite of passage that fits more with a doctrine that could be employed to ensure a outcome more beneficial to mutants.
It does feel like Krakoa is increasingly unsustainable ethically and tonally for a lot of fans...
Hickman continues doubling down on the "cult" aspects
Once Moira makes herself known, Raven begins executing "the plan"... shit's gonna go down
Doug with the techno-organic virus , New Mutants and Shi'ar... Maddy Pryor appearing... a lot of potential harbingers of chaos
Forget the old ways - Krakoa is god.
