Personally, I hope that's exactly what happens.
In general, I think DC both as a company and as a brand really suffered under the old leadership. We are living in a world where Marvel is a brand that elicits almost universal love and an expectation of quality. Can we honestly say that DC, for the past several years, has been doing its best to compete? Those people you call "nostalgia fanatics" are just nostalgic for the days when DC told good stories.

If someone did blow the whistle regarding 5G, and the higher ups came in and found out that there were more things involved (the mass leaving of editors and a toxic work environment, for example), they'll want to know why no one had brought it to their attention until just now.
So I really don't think anyone currently employed at DC will get promoted.
Least of all the person that blew the whistle.
I think they'll hire someone from somewhere else.

I seriously doubt this was a spur of the moment revelation. With as many editors who have left and given the corporate nature of Warner Media, there was probably a consensus with the exit interviews that Didio was to blame for them leaving. That probably lead to further investigation which lead to Didio's termination.
Mark Waid, Jeph Loeb, Jimmy Palmiotti.
those are my top 3 options.
