Default X-Men Fantastic Four #2 - Review and Discussion with SPOILERS

100 pages of discussion, here we come!

    SUMMARY:

The comic opens up with the preview pages. After Sue destroys the device they were using to communicate with Krakoa, she, Ben and Johnny decide to go straight to Krakoa and get their children back (even though they're not there). Reed tries to convince them that Krakoa is now a nation and they cannot just invade it, but the others do not agree and so they convince him to go to Krakoa.

In the meantime, we witness Doom's attack on the Marauder. He makes short work of the team and hits Kate with a blast. She passes out and then awakes... at dinner time with Franklin, Valeria and Uncle Doom. Her powers have been disabled by Doom using his previous knowledge from her past experiments on her while she was a ghost. The rest of her crew has also been captured.

Doom explains those mutants that the Marauders were looking for were not lost at sea, but they were on Doom Island (yay he's got a great fantasy for names), which is a place where Doom has placed mutants from Latveria to avoid confrontation with Krakoa. Doom himself is there on the island because he wants to fix Franlin's powers. He was kinda nice, but Valeria points out later that he's still Victor Von Doom.

Datapage about mutant population by Reed Richards. He doesn't quite understand the meaning of Omega Mutants for Krakoans, and he's worried for when they will come for Franklin because of his Omega status.

We move to Krakoa and the Quite Council room. Xavier is talking telepathically with Jamie Madrox, who's investigating the disappearance of the Marauders. He tells Xavier that the crew is missing from the boat. The mutants at sea that they were looking for are also no longer showing on Cerebro (Doom probably shielded the Island after bringing the X-Men in as prisoners). They talk about what they should do about it and decide to send a team to investigate the disappearance.

Magneto is still worried about the FF and Emma suggests to prepare plans in case of a future attack from the quartet... who's actually been hiding in the Quite Council Room all the time thanks to Sue's powers. Magneto uses iron powder and scraps to reveal them and Cyclops is quick to blast Sue, who passes out.

The FF try to run away and the X-Men attack. Piotr tries to reason with Ben but gets punched, and Kwannon says that they have TP blocking tech in their helmets. Sue is still down and the FF cannot escape without her, so Reed decides to turn off her psi-shields. Emma is quick to get her but as soon as she does Reed turns the psi-shields on again. Sue is now awake thanks to that psychic push so she grabs her team and they fly away, heading to the location of Doom Island that they got while they were spying the Quiet Council meeting.

Scott notifies Xavier that they are heading there, and they decide to send a team.

On Doom Island, Victor is showing Kate, Franklin and Valeria his tech and he explains that he wants Franklin to reach his full potential (he and Magneto could be bffs). He lets Kate go and she goes to take the rest of the crew. In the meantime, we are showed that Doom is secretly spying on everyone and, most importantly, he has got a Sentinel army.

I was dissapointed there wasn't as much bickering in the issue. Pretty much the most petty stuff was in the preview.

This has been painful to read. Like, the 4F plan makes no sense, it makes no sense for anyone to trust Doom, nothing makes sense. The ease with which they have infiltrated Krakoa is just stupid.

Yeah, even if telepaths couldn't get to them, they have Black Tom's protocols that should have revealed them.

This is a comic booky ass comic book. Which isn't exactly what i was expecting from this series.

It's nice to know how many mutants are and aren't on Krakoa.

Like, I understand that you are invisible, but what about the noise, the smell, the electromagnetic radiation, all those things. It's just "Nope, we're in the middle of the meeting and if Magneto doesn't break that fountain, there's no fight."

Also, that the characters change their costumes is just distracting. I guess they invaded on laundry day.

it was mostly a fight issue.

Now I am wondering what is Doom evil plan, he has second intentions with franklin.

It is Reed Richards, Whose science is bloody near magic (except when dealing with his son and thing) it is never a surprise when he does anything.

Yeah, this mini seems pretty lackluster so far. The only good thing out of this issue was the Scemma scene <3

Nah, it made complete sense in that the FF were wearing suits that masked them from everything, and Sue provided the invisibility.
You think that Reed would make an airtight suit that blocked psychic powers wouldn't also suppress sounds and smells and anything else?

And as someone posted - it's comic books. Of course it worked.

Doom wants Franklin's power to access and control the Godpower -- it's the only thing they've brought up specifically in both issues.

Black Tom's stuff should have made them visible like Magneto did though. Reed couldn't have possibly known about it.

I loved that Scemma scene. Emma was like YAS now get in your Hellfire minion uniform.

We know that Krakoa is full of spores that Black Tom uses to locate intruders. How water works but spores don't?

Anyway, everything is very forced. Doom causing a problem for the X-Men and the 4F to have a misunderstanding, fight, and now they will team up to destroy those Doombots-sentinel ...

Everything is written as following a mold. Nothing surprises nor is it really interesting.
