I'm no expert on Sailor Moon, but aren't the Sailor Senshi meant to be planet busters or something like that?

Unfortunately, this is a stomp. Even if this was Mercury during the beginning stages of her career, she should be able to blitz Azula easily. EOE Mercury...is just cruel.
    Ichigo: What even *are* you?!

Kenpachi: Some say my mother was a train. Some say that I'm a rejected Godzilla monster too strong for the series canon. But everyone says: I'M THE KEEEEENPACHIIIIII!!!!

Is there a ruling about magical girl animations? Like, as presented in serial episodes, do they not count as windup time unless specifically noted?

I'd say Azula beats Ami in a quckdraw but I'm legitimately unsure.

...so I'm not familiar with anything besides the bubbles, could you please expand on this?

Like, the Senshi can take a hit, certainly, but I'm not totally up to speed on where their physical stats lie...?

In the manga, they just call out the attack and monsters die.

It's very much point and click.

In the manga, Mercury also created some weird dimension vortex thingy.

She also noped a big energy blast from Evil Endymion.

And blasted herself out of a weird pocket dimension mirror that had been sucking her in and messing around with her home.

She can also release a freezing mist in her base.

Wow. And here I am with my - fuzzy - memories of the Sailor Senshi wrapping up capers with cursed jewelry or trying to talk evil into a date with chocolate parfaits.

    They don't mess around.

The Manga Senshi are totally different beasts than the old anime Senshi. Most of their villains don't even stick around that long before the Senshi blast them out of existence.

There's actually a really funny moment in the Manga where one dude, I think it was the Mad Professor, turns himself into a souped up Youma, jumps on top of some equipment and starts laughing and taunting them.

Their response is to blast him and move right along.

Sailor Moon Crystal is more in line with the Manga.

If memory serves, when Manga Sailormars found Jedite at her temple, she just flat-out killed him with Mars Sniper. The original anime had so much filler because the manga Senshi tended to go through their enemies faster than the seasons would let them.

Crystal, being a closer adaptation, would be bad for Azula as well.

Old anime Mercury.... well, she actually does have a transformation feat back during.... I want to say Nephrite? Nephrite was chasing a target, popped out of his car in full Dark Kingdom regalia. Ami popped behind a car, transformed, and hopped on top if a second later to call him out. Nephrite, if memory serves, basically blows her off, hops in his car, and drives off. Might be where the Scouts got the idea to try and follow his car.

Anyway, it basically was a third-person view of the transformation blocked by scenery, but it didn't take more than a second. I am not certain if that is enough time for Azula to get anything going that can cross the starting distance before Ami transforms into Sailor Mercury. And the problem with that is I somewhat doubt Azula has the firepower to take down a transformed Senshi.

    Sincerely,

    Melchior, the Geddon Knight
