Default Bond after NO TIME TO DIE

So NTTD is supposed to be the final Daniel Craig film, and definitely seems like it's being advertised as a finale, continuing and probably concluding some of SPECTRE's plot threads.

So question is, what happens after? Should the series once again reboot the continuity? Although Casino Royale did give the initial impression it was a soft reboot by keeping Judi Dench as M, later films made it pretty clear it wasn't with new takes on Q, Moneypenny, Blofeld etc. The other films of course frequently recasted but sort of had a light continuity (Bond's marriage being brought up a few times for example) up until then.

They could go that route with Craig, recast Bond but perhaps keep Harris, Fiennes, Whishaw etc...or start from scratch again. Although many wish for Idris Elba, he's 47 and probably be nearly 50 by the time the next Bond will probably be made. Age of course, famously became an issue with Moore staying until he was nearly 60, and it could be argued it sort of was an issue for Connery in his last two films as well.

Maybe start from scratch? Cavill I can almost see; he read for the role in Casino Royale but was considered too young at the time, and his Superman was iffy but he seems to be doing quite well with the Witcher, who has some of the rawness of the Craig era Bond. He also already has done a few spy flicks, much like other Bond actors have before they were cast.

Cavill's too famous. It'll go to a relatively unknown (Idris is out too, both due to fame and age). The producers want people to look at Bond and ONLY see Bond; not see a famous person. Chances are who we suggest for this, will never be the actual people in the running for the job. As for a soft-reboot... nah, the actual continuity isn't hugely needed. I do like the idea of each Bond having an over-reaching arc, maybe (but not too over-reaching) in their films.
"We are Shakespeare. We are Michelangelo. We are Tchaikovsky. We are Turing. We are Mercury. We are Wilde. We are Lincoln, Lorca, Leonardo da Vinci. We are Alexander the Great. We are Fredrick the Great. We are Rustin. We are Addams. We are Marsha! Marsha Marsha Marsha! We so generous, we DeGeneres. We are Ziggy Stardust hooked to the silver screen. Controversially we are Malcolm X. We are Plato. We are Aristotle. We are RuPaul, god dammit! And yes, we are Woolf."

i think bond should take a break if NTTD is a finale. it will take quite some effort to reinvent bond for this age.
the soft craig reboot is still too fresh and i canīt see them just go on with a new bond. which could be the best choice.
but i canīt see that in the storyboard room. they will want to leave their mark and come up with something fancy
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Just do it like they did in the old days, and carry on as if nothing has changed. Rebooting for Casino Royale was justified because they wanted to adapt the first book and that required Bond to be just starting out as a double-o, but I wouldn't want to keep repeating that trick. The whole "James Bond is a codename" theory is a complete turn-off for me, and is just dreadful, imo.

I don't know if I want the same supporting cast to carry over. I like them, but I'm also fine with them chopping and changing like they've done in the past.

As for the next actor to play Bond, I think the producers don't like to pay big money upfront until the actor has proven himself a hit in the part, so whoever they hire they'll be buying on the cheap... and I think that rules out Cavill. I think he would demand a large salary straight away, and I don't see the producers going for that. Clive Owen was in a similar position as the obvious choice amongst the general public, IIRC, and he says he was never even asked to audition (Variety, however, reported that he demanded a share of the profits but the producers wouldn't play ball), which suggests even when they've got someone many would see as perfect for the role they don't want to open their wallet too wide. I also wonder how long it might take them to make a choice and then get to filming. I think many of the names bandied about might end up being too old by the time they are ready to get the machine rolling again.

Yeah although I thoroughly enjoyed the man from uncle, just don't see cavill as Bond. I feel like like bond needs to be someone who I can also buy as a villain and cavill looks too innocent for it imo.

Have you seen Mission Impossible 6 and The Witcher? I thought Cavill pulled off sinister pretty well in those.

I'd give Bond a bit of a break depending on the the story line. It's kind of hard to say without seeing the film first.

There's been occasional talk of a 'period' Bond, something set during the time the novels were written, or the early movies. I think that's the approach some of the recent comic books (James Bond Origin, the novel adaptations) have taken.

I had kind of hoped they would go that route with Casino Royale and set it in the late '50s or early '60s. But I think they didn't because it often loses the interest of the young movie going audience when someone does that.

Black James Bond = Highly possible though not necessary.

Female James Bond= Hell to the No.

You know... now this has been mentioned, ohhhhh I'd LOVE Cavill as the villain. Bond hasn't had a truly physically threatening villain in years.

Complete side note, but it just always bugs me a little that the subject of "black James Bond" comes up more than any other ethnicity in the UK. Why not Indian James Bond??? Asian James Bond! There are actually more British Asians citizens than British Black citizens. We're talking 4.3 millions vs 1.9 million. It's DOUBLE!

Asian actors in the UK constantly get SCREWED over. They do it with Doctor Who too. I've yet to see an Asian actor as a serious contender for the role. I'll keep flying my Art Malik flag, hoping against hope one day he'll get the job.

Blacks are the second most populous race in the UK. I lived there as a student. London is very diverse.

The brits would be more open to a black Bond than a female Bond if you look at the state of Dr Who.

Brits loves Idris Elba, though he is now too old to be starting Bond.

Ummm...not according to government statistics they aren't. 6.8% of the population is "Asian" defined as Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, or other non Chinese, with "Black" groups comprising only 3.4. You're own personal experiences don't trump actual facts.

London it a fairly diverse city though, with 48% being "minority races"
