I wouldnt be suprised if anti mutant people start to see wanda as a messiah and try to tap into her brand of chtonic magic.after all she did almost mutants and suffered no consequences, shes a hero even!!
entire demonic covens of warlocks using vile magic to harm mutants inspired by wanda would be a nice story to highlight her past mistakes

Those that wield chaos magic without being able to handle it would probably kill themselves. So you don't have to worry.

What would you even put her on trial for? Taking away powers isn't exactly against the law.

I've heard people argue genocide but that would never stick considering the people she genocide would be standing there int eh courtroom accusing her.

I suppose you could go with manslaughter.
Grand theft maybe? She stole their powers?

Who's the best lawyer on the X-men's side anyway? I know Iceman studied law. Cable passed the bar exam, but he's a lot younger now than he was when he passed it.

I'd just love to see the whole thing get thrown out of court when it's revealed that nobody read her her rights when she was take into custody.

That's true. It could argued Scarlet Witch falls into this, as well, considering she has been possessed by Chthon before (which has had lasting ramifications on her psyche) and she had a mental breakdown and being goaded by her brother to lash out against Magneto. Mags never had this defense in his crimes when he started killing people, he did because he was in his right mind yet his crimes get a pass due to him being a mutant. Despite the fact Wanda's spent the majority of her life being called a mutant: it got her house burnt down, almost lynched and why she was in the Brotherhood. The X-men take this to court any sensible judge will throw it out and she has access to good lawyers, like She-Hulk and Daredevil.

It hasn't been a defining feature for his character. Absolutely nobody defends Magneto's actions by bringing that up. Outside the 80's it's irrelevant.

Yeah, the Scarlet Witch deserves to face some reckoning for her actions and the devastation they caused, but let's not overlook Quicksilver's role as the instigator of that tragic mess in the first place.
During the years his sister was banned from comics, Quicksilver managed to have a series where he hit rock bottom (Son of M) a redemption arc (in X-Factor and "Quick and the Dead") and not one but two major roles in ongoings (Mighty Avengers and Avengers Academy) where he successfully fooled all but a few people into thinking that his previous actions were taken by a Skrull. (Many years later Peter David had Pietro wrap this story up by publicly confessing it wasn't a Skrull, and then everyone forgave him instantly.)

All of this while his sister was not allowed to be in any comics at all. There's just no substitute for actually being in comics.

Anyway the answer is that yes, fine, let them do a "Trial of Wanda Maximoff" story because it's better than her not appearing in anything, which seems to be what usually happens because the Avengers is committed to doing nothing but boring all-star lineups.

Besides, let's face it, as the constant Wanda discussion here shows, X-Men needs her star power.

If we're comparing popularity with thread lengths Wanda is more popular than various high profile Avengers and X-men, like Kitty Pryde.

sometimes hate is just hate, once wanda gets hers it will stop
The Inhumans were the flavor of the month when it came to hate. Wanda hate is That-Which-Endures (also the name one of the many forces Wanda has been possessed by). All it needs is a line in a freakin' text page to set it off. A symbolic panel sets it smoldering. When she appears in the pink-covered flesh, it will take over the board.

Wanda just has a way of making any story about her, even if she's not in it.

That's why they started that with Wanda. So she'd seem more related to him. Since she looked more like Magda.

My only problem with those depictions of her was that they were more to make a shock story about a hero being bad, instead of giving her a real diagnosed mental illness.
