    Default X-Men # 8: Something's Coming Review *spoilers*

Issue opens in the Akademos Habitat where morning has arrived. Magma & Dani wake to have some coffee. Amara notices the Brood King Egg (stolen by Rahne in a previous space issue) and questions what it is.

Cut to a Shi’ar Graveyard in space where the Brood are feeding on an Acanti (preview pages). They are looking for their missing King Egg.

Data Page: We get a small recap from the War of Kings event which specifically calls out three main players: Gladiator, Black Bolt, & Vulcan.

We now venture to the Summer’s House located on the Blue Area of the Moon where Vulcan is dreaming of himself floating in space (seems like he is starting to remember parts of his old life). He is awoken by his brothers Scott & Alex who think his partying with Petra & Sway is getting “outta control”. Gabe reveals he has been having the same dream every night. Their conversation is interrupted when they notice a pod of Acanti heading toward Earth.

Back on Krakoa, Idie welcome Broo, who takes interest in the fact that Krakoa keeps adapting as new mutants arrive (he is not impressed by some of the building standards). Idie notes the Gen X kids “live like animals”.

Magma, Dani, Rahne, & Illyana welcome Ide & Broo in for breakfast. However, Broo is more concerned with the King Egg and what its presence means on Krakoa. His lecture is interrupted by a Brood infested Acanti crash-landing right outside.

Magik, Dani, & Magma jump in to fight off the Brood until reinforcements arrive. It doesn’t take long for Cyclops & Jean to show up. Scott checks in with his captain (Illyana) and the two use their powers in conjunction to eliminate as many Brood as possible. During the battle, Broo explains the situation to Jean who in turn telepathically informs Scott.

Scott, Jean, Havok, & Vulcan take the King Egg into space as Illyana is instructed to keep the fight going on Krakoa. During takeoff, Gabe gets a little creepy talking about “a great fire waiting to ignite inside…”.

*Summer’s Brother #3 is definitely going to be a problem soon*

Data Page: First data page repeated with amended notes. Vulcan did not die at the end of War of Kings.

Out in Shi’ar space, we find The Starjammers captive and at the mercy of a Kree Accuser. Apparently, they were meant to steal the Brood King Egg for him. The Accuser pulls up Sunspot (who is playing with Sam & Izzy’s baby) on a holographic projector. Berto & the Accuser make a deal…Berto will get him the King Egg if the Accuser lets the Starjammers go.

Izzy catches the end of Berto’s transmission and warns her fellow super guardians that a Kree Accuser is hanging out on the edge of Shi’ar space.

Gladiator and his son’s Brood hunting trip is interrupted by Izzy’s warning. They now plan to hunt “better game”.

Got two general opinions from this issue.

    1. New Mutants (Akademos Habitat) really kinda stick to that classic X-men feel rather than the post Krakoa feel most of the rest of the Mutant population has (For better and for worse.)

    2. Mad King Vulcan still being alive? You're gonna have a BAD TIME

That Magma scene was pretty damn good. She deserved that. Even though it was just a power display.

I loved when Cyclops and Jean arrive. (Jean making shiet happen)

The Summer's Boys was interesting. Something is going to go down with Vulcan.

I THINK Hickman stated that if someone is resurrected and their not actually dead, that that would be explored. ( I think they are doing this with Vulcan)

I love when they feature or put spotlight on characters we haven't seen in awhile.

Also Kid Gladiator. I always like him.

    Can't wait for next issue.

I want to see how many X-Men show up to battle the Brood.

    Who's drawing next issue?

I think I'm just gonna pick this up issue to issue instead of continuously so I can avoid the less interesting issues, like this one. I flicked through it, the only thing which seemed interesting was the Gabriel thing.

Oh man, so much fun but so fast! I was drooling with each page.

So good to see Oya and Broo, and the Summers brothers are adorable. New Mutants is one of the titles I’m picking up via trade so I’m happy to experience Hickman’s voices for the squad. Roberto steals the show.

Queen Jean coordinating with the telepaths while calming the island. Scott and Illyana’s professional relationship. *chef’s kiss*

    Kid Gladiator!

This is going to be a &@%# show and I’m ready for it. Thank you, Hickman!

    Two theories

    A. They are two Vulcans
    B. Vulcan is original Vulcan with memory loss after escaping the fault

Either one of things is these interesting and is going to be super messy.

My guess is the first one.

But honestly either option is messy cause Mad King Vulcan is not somebody you want around AT ALL

I took it as option B, but my guess is he didn't actually lose his memory but that Xavier mindwiped him ala Identity Crisis.

Meaning we have young Vulcan with the X-Men and the other still at Shi'ar space?
