I’ve often wondered about them pairing Eddie up with Dr. Kafka in that show (there were a LOT of weird romances in that show...) has Eddie even met Dr. Kafka in comics?

Kinda over this more soft-hearted Venom who is always looking for atonement. Sure he has a kid to look after now, but I'm missing the more care-free version we got in the 90s who was more of an anti-hero who doesn't quite get the "hero" bit. He used to be more violent and loose Spider-Man with the morals, now he's just Spider-Man in the black suit. His uniqueness has faded over time (Thanks Marvel and your over-use of symbiote storylines over recent years) and Brock is just... I dunno... Not as fun anymore. I mainly collect the books out of habit more than enjoying the stories.

Not that I'm aware of, no, though the weird romances in 90s TAS were part of the fun, looking back on it now.
The spider is always on the hunt.

This was mostly Costa's approach, and honestly it didnt work for me. I understand some people are really into the Anti-Hero Venom, but I think that version of the character has never really lend itself for more serious storytelling. Which is why most Venom stories in the 90s were kinda silly, goofy or horrific.

Honestly. Atoning Venom is the most mature version of the character so far, and I think that's the reason Cates has nailed it. Eddie Brock as crazy and loose worked when he was a villain, but not as a hero.

For me, I'd say that Venom was reinvigorated thanks to Flash Thompson's tenure as Agent Venom.

Rather, what Cates has done for me was reinvigorate the concept of Eddie Brock as Venom. This is from someone who felt Eddie's peak was his time as Anti-Venom. Cates has made me enjoy Brock as Venom, and really also Brock period, especially after he punked Scott Washington/Hybrid like he did.

Wish there was a way to ask Cates if he has any plans to address and rectify that stain on the Cates-era Brock.
