But this is why characters like Monet are so important for me, because of the overall assumptions that black don't come in unique and visually different features while still being black. I know my comment is broad generalizing this issue, but what I mean a lot of times in visually mediums like comics hell across all forms of media, black is typically pigeonholed as one thing. When the truth is straight hair, narrow noses, etc are not features specific to any one racial group.
I love the differences between a character like Monet and Storm or even Joanna because it shows the spectrum of what a black woman looks like and honestly we need more of it. Which is also why I have mixed feelings about David's X-factor run. I felt like outside Monet consistently being whitewashed or lightened he added a lot of unnecessary things to distance her from what her creators originally designed her as.
I'm not the most qualified for this kind of discussion but I hope this makes sense.
