I had to switch from my work computer to my personal laptop. I've been working from home for the last week and half and was just put on temporary Leave. I was told to keep the work computer at home for now. They would like me back when they can start hiring again.

Aw man, congrats bruh on the new baby, salute.

I work at a Hospital and I am considered essential staff so outside of taking off at the end of the week for a few days previously scheduled for Spring break, I need to make arrangements to be here. Time has passed and there have been and will be recoveries but I don't know that we've seen peak yet. Things are different on campus here but there are just ramped up flu restrictions that would normally be in place. Thing is the cafeteria is distancing and you can't get a fountain drink and nobody was lauding the food there anydamnway but this just makes it claro, bring you food.

Supermarkets are on a queue, wife went at 7am and it was a line. Fucked up thing is, if you wanted any kind of different kind of meat, certain steak sandwich or something, that's a wrap, there isn't much selection in what you're allowed to get. I needed to stop the red meat anyway.

Schools are out until May, probably further at this point in Indianapolis. It's going to get real sketchy for people once the Daycares close. My wife is a Healthcare admin worker as well and she's been home working.

Check on the old folks if you can. If you do got to the store maybe pick up a little extra soup or something and give it to someone if you can. I've been stressing to people, THIS more than likely is the easy part. Flattening a public pneumonia threat curve is going to take some time, think months (and this will include recoveries) over weeks. Things will come back but in my amateur epidemiology opinion, it's like a forest fire on some level. Hot spots will emerge once the major threat is stamped out but people need to do their parts and keep this from the most vulnerable and some of those that are not as vulnerable.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?
    You bet yer ass.

First financial impact for me now though I fully realize its pretty minor compared to many. My daughter's college finally went completely online only. She's also lost most of her hours at her job (a pizza buffet place) as they are only doing takeout now. So I'll probably be paying some of her rent now for her.

My employer is an utter catch-22 now. We were already seven people short of full staffing (which is a lot for my agency as fully staffed we are less than 100) and were in the hiring process for them but our employer has now put a hiring freeze on as they are going to be bringing in far less money now due to lost revenues at parks and rec facilities, sports leagues, ice rinks, etc. However that hiring freeze means more continued overtime as we have to work and can't cut back (law enforcement as I mentioned earlier). If anything I'd say we are getting busier as domestics are going up due to families being cooped up together and mental health calls, which were already a huge amount of our daily calls, are also going up as a lot of people with mental illness are being triggered by the nationwide panic and being isolated from care. Not to mention the entire nation is now under a catch and release policy with people committing crimes as we aren't supposed to book except for violent felonies which is really emboldening a lot of criminals.

Just hoping we aren't told we have to start enforcing any kind of quarantines because that will be an utter **** show. Even if we wanted to do it (we don't) we really have way no way to enforce it since we can't book anyone in jail. It will be "go inside your house and if you don't I'm going to keep coming back here and tell you more sternly each time to go back in your house."

I make a list on my white board of needs, wants and wishes. I see the things I need are very few, so that helps me keep things in perspective when I'm considering if I have to go out for something. I don't.

You know, that makes me slightly crazy. I study this stuff for a living, and CEO of Kroger is right: there is enough of everything, including TP in the supply chain. If people will relax their panic reflexes and buy reasonable volumes for about 3-5 days, shelves will resume looking normal. Had I dictatorial power for a bit, one of the crisis management criteria I'd put in place is to limit volumes on overly fast moving products.

I get that people want to wait out a quarantine. But ain't nobody gonna eat two cases of Campbells Alphabet Soup in the span of 14 days.

One of the things panic buying does is put others into the mentality that they also need to buy more than normal, in order to not have empty shelves waiting for them when they run low.

My wife and I are completely good on TP for another 2-3 weeks as we had a good stock before the panic buying. However I absolutely will be buying all they'll let me next time I actually see some in a store just so we don't run out since who knows how long the panic buying is going to last.

A little FYI for panicked buyers DON'T.

Mass sales on an item are great in the short term, but when it comes to refilling shelves on a product everyone is buying in massive quantities we can't restock. Distributors only have so much product they get at the warehouse and this is divided up by every store they deal with. This means that bigger stores will get more stuff and leave the littler guys behind, or that whomever gets it first has it all bought up leaving many places barren or with very little. Bear in mind we're also not given proprietary items as employees. The toilet paper and cleaning supplies that is being hoarded is the same product oftentimes used by store staff. Cleaning product that is used to keep you safe and hygienic in times like this.

You do not need 6 gallons of milk. It has a ten day code, you're just being an *******.

You do not need more than 2-3 rolls of toilet paper, it often comes as a two to four pack for a reason. If you're shitting that much you already have a problem.

Understand that panicked buying will actually cause a shortage, there is no shortage on product at this time. Shops remain open for your convenience and the Governor says we have to. Have some commonsense and stop stressing as it will only make the situation worse.

There's no shortages from the factories but there shortages at the stores. I've been buying as much as they let me.

It's difficult to think that way when you see the entire stock vanish in minutes multiple shipments in a row. I bought some extra myself the moment I had the chance once I started seeing that, and if I hadn't, I'd be critically low right now and hoping there is any left on daily trips to the store (creating extra risk of infection). And there would NEVER be any left where I live, since about a 3rd to half the population is seniors, who are being allowed in a full hour before anyone else. There are typically zero paper products of any kind after that hour where I am not allowed in.

I'm in Dallas and I work in the laboratory industry. I don't work directly in the lab, I prepare digital paperwork with medical terminology for the pathologists, so our company gave our entire dept new computer equipment to take home on Thursday to start working from home. The others (Lab techs, pathologists) all have to continue working onsite......... Thing is, we're an anatomic pathology company, and today our volume was abnormally low. I'm hoping this won't lead to any layoffs, as I figured, being in the medical field, we're safe. I'm not worked up about it, but have contemplated possibilities. My problem is I recently spent a significant amount of money on medical bills due to a health condition, so if layoffs occur and things continue, nationwide, it's bad timing for me as I'd probably only be able to last for 2 months before going into financial trouble.

That said, I know it's been pretty bad for others. I know of a single-mother who had two jobs and had a solid job lined up and was going to go into training for it in a few months. She got laid off from her two current jobs and the solid job she was going to have has delayed hiring/training indefinitely.

Dallas hasn't been hit that hard like other areas. It's one of the bigger cities in the nation, but we've had 4 deaths so far. It could escalate, of course.....They finally put the city on lockdown today.

As for self-quarantine and the like, I don't mind it. I don't like being around people anyway, lol. Working from home is great. I can get more sleep, not paying for gas, no time wasted on a commute. It doesn't affect my daily life, aside from not being able to go on dates....It would've been more ideal if this whole situation occurred when I had a live in girlfriend, but oh well.

I doubt it'll happen, but I'm wondering how it'll be if internet providers get shut down. That's one of the primary outlets for a lot of people, especially in a time like this. Granted, we have cell phones as a back-up, but a lot of people rely on the internet for streaming services, social media, etc....I have plenty of reading material and a huge blu-ray/DVD library, but some might go mad.

I heard that even though COVID comes from bats, bats don't get sick. So I gave myself a serum from bat's blood. It seems to work, though there are some side effects.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

I am kind of lucky. My aunt is staying with us for a while(2 months has turned into six so far) She is a senior so we are going to the store so she can shop on senior hours and then I am going in when it opens to the public to get more.

She is going to focus on paper products and cleaning supplies and I am going to focus on meats and frozen food. We are not going to horde. The store has a limit any way so we cant. We are just going to get what we need for us and my dad.

We have a plan in place so I hope it works out.
