Also the first Excalibur series had a 12 issue storyline near the beginning of the run called the Crosstime Caper where they were jumping from reality to reality.

Among other realities it featured takes on Judge Dredd and the Dirty Pair.

    The Crosstime Caper was awesome.
A couple of my favorite bits were Rick Jones, going on about his sidekick status. He even offers to sidekick for Captain Britain...”You’d be My third Captain”!
Also, Giant Man got so huge the team actually landed on him.
His every breath changed local weather patterns. It was pretty epic and sad for Hank.

Damn, now I wanna read that book over!

Can't believe I didn't think of this one. This was really good but I think was overlooked because of the Ultimate line which came out at the same time.

    Agreed.
I remember it was always in danger of cancellation.

Ultimate was a lot edgier than MC2, the latter being more about straightforward superhero stories told through the lens of a new generation taking up where the old left off, while the former was about reinterpreting classic superheroes for a more modern era, with all the cynicism, if not even nihilism, that had crept into the cultural psyche by then. Of course Ultimate would get more press and more attention than MC2; MC2 was just continuing where 616 left off, with all the associated "baggage," and Ultimate was "new and fresh."

Yeah, but the fans kept saving it each and every time because of sheer positive word of mouth.

Man, word of mouth is a lot easier nowadays, isn’t it?
Back then we’d actually have to blindside ppl at the comic shop itself!

My personal favorite would be a little-known one-shot called Timeslip: The Coming of the Avengers (1998):
