I was pretty shocked that he was not in the films. He is such an important character to the comic mythos and I believe Thors life. Imagine Balder getting hit by mistletoe laced arrows/spears and it starting Ragnarok, or the play between him and Karnilla. The stuff he had to go through after and conquering his demons. It writes itself. I could see it leading to a spin-off movie just because there is so much material there. Amora is someone else who is sorely missing.

Even though it never came about, I still adore this image from Simonson's The Saga of the Vengeance of Thor

Hela's shoulder pads puts Stryfe's to shame.
I think an easy way to look at Thanos stories is that anything written by Jim Starlin, Ron Marz and Keith Giffen is the real Thanos while anything written by other authors should be dismissed as a Thanosi clone.

This was such a great run! Story, dialogue, art, and lettering meshed seamlessly. Simonson simply loved the characters and wrote them with great enthusiasm and respect. There was so much LIFE in every panel! I don't know that any modern writer will ever match it.

I hope that Mr Simonson comes back for a mini series. It would be fun. Canon or not.

Have you been reading Ragnarok published by IDW? It's Walt doing a post apocalypse version of Thor and what's left of the Norse gods. It's well worth picking up and pretty much qualifys as a non-canonical mini, even if it's three ix issue runs so far.
