Default How Do You Keep Track of X-Men Comics?

I'm pretty sure there is well over 5000 issues of comics that prominently feature mutants. How do you keep track of what you've collected, what you've liked, or hated, and what you have yet to read?
Do you have a notepad or use a spreadsheet? Just label your boxes? I really am curious.

Due to Covid-19, I've been temporarily laid off. Figured now would be a good time to go back and do an essential read-through of the line (I'm thinking between 1000-2000 issues) I've read a lot, but also large gaps that I have missed. And since I'm taking this deep dive, figured I should keep track of it all.

Thankfully there are a handful of really good reading guides online. I'm pulling heavy from that, and then throwing it into a spreadsheet so that I can easily see at a glance what I've read, and what I think about it.

This is the spreadsheet I've made. Have any of you done something similar? Any suggestions?
I've given myself five ratings to use. Bad, Okay, Good, Fire, G.O.A.T. I've also kept track of story arcs and included first appearances and deaths. Also breaking up each era.
I'll be scrolling for days once this is complete. Which is exciting. Assuming I stick with it.

EDIT: Not sure why the photo looks like ass, but there is enough there, that you should get the idea.

Personally, because I don't read every x-book ever published and I have no intention of ever reading every x-book published, ever...my storage system is quite easy and manageable...long-boxes and listed and labelled. My current reading selection (HoX 01 to XM 09) is stacked in my library and within easy reach for re-readings.

Hey, that's actually super helpful!!! UGH, there is just so much. Gotta remind myself, I don't have to read everything. Would like to read a lot though!
Once I'm further along in my spreadsheet and clean it up a bit more, I'd be happy to share it.

Personally I like to own them in collected editions
It's simpler to store and to read the full arc in one block
But for my singles, I keep them in boxes by chronological reading order

    Here are my reading suggestions.
But I am not so up to date, so I don't know what the new stories are worth:

    • The Ed Piskor Saga
    • Uncanny X-Men by Stan Lee
    • X-Men Season 1
    • Giant-Size X-Men #1
    • Proteus Saga
    • The Dark Phoenix Saga
    • Days of Future Past
    • God Loves Man kills
    • New X-Men by Grant Morrison
    • Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon
    • X-Factor by Peter David
    • Wolverine & The X-Men
    • Civil War
    • Wolverine: Old Man Logan
    • House of M
    • Messiah Complexe
    • Avengers vs. X-Men
    • Trial of Jean Grey

I use comicspriceguide.com for keeping up with what I own and what I want. The database should have virtually every x-Men comic ever printed, and is always updating. I don't use them, but there are some handy options you can apply while you're entering your comics, such as 1) How much you paid for it 2)Whether you've read it or not 3) What box book is located in. You can be as detailed about each entry as you choose, or just enter them all as 9.4 with no changes. The Want List function is the handiest to me, and the more I buy, the more the list expands. You would need a paid membership to do what you want, and I think plans start at $50/year. You'll be able to look at all kinds of reports, have an idea what your collection is worth, and set up the collection exactly how it will provide you the most contentment.

I go by events pre New X-Men then I go with "eras" similar to jb681131 if I even tried doing what you're doing I would go insane.

I tend to only follow the mainline stories unless it is written by a writer that I follow.

The only time I ever followed every title is Dawn of X and that's only because Hickman is the Head of X and I will always read anything he is involved with.
