I was trying to do too much and not doing any of it as well as I could. But I've had a change of mind... though not everyone shall enjoy it. I will.

I think that LOL is appropriate here.
We're reading about a Xavier who has known since his University years that Moira McTaggert is a multiply reincarnated mutant with first hand evidence that their species is doomed to - at best - endangered species status in a world of uninterested superhumans. A Xavier who has been in league with Magneto during most of the X-Men's history, a Xavier who knew about and recruited Sinister as a genetic specialist before he became a major X-Villain and told no one about him.
Whose Xavier was THAT* again? 8-)
(*Hickman's. That's who)

Xavier and Moira recruited Magneto at the same time in the comics, starting in Uncanny 150, and are even shown using the same boat as they did in Powers of X 2 when they recruit him as they did in that issue. This began a process of Magneto's redemption that culminated in Uncanny 200, when he ends up joining the X-Men and taking over as headmaster for the New Mutants for Xavier.
This is the same Xavier it's always been.
The same one who wiped the minds of everyone in Bobby Drake's home-town when he recruited him with no regard, and lied about Scott's brother after sending him to his death in Deadly Genesis. Are those only Gary Friedrich, and Ed Brubaker's Xaviers? LOL is appropriate at pretending that only one author has ever made Xavier do questionable things, or that Hickman's version is somehow invalid or not the same because of a retcon, which again, every author does, unless Claremont's Xavier wasn't Wein's, who wasn't Thomas's, who wasn't Lee's.
Not all the time Magneto broke his ties with Moira and Xavier during mutant genesis after he discovered Moira made some changes to his dna while he was in her care, this means Xavier and Magneto were allies around the time Magneto went to live on the X-mansion imo. It isn´t clear since when they remade their links, my guess is that it happened after the X-men and Magneto came back from the Age of X world and Hickman points to it on HoX
He also made Mr Sinister forget about meeting him but other than that everything happened as it was supposed to happen imo.

.....onslaught? He's sort of an alternate persona of Xavier's (Didn't he show up when Red Skull used his brain?), plus there's that really old issue with an evil Xavier persona too.

LOL indeed. You'll have to point me at whoever it is doing that so we can laugh at them together.
Oh, you mean me? That's... yeah, what a very odd reading.
Hickman's retcon of who and why Xavier is who he is is entirely valid. Not just because, as the writer of the X-Men he gets to call the shots just like everyone else, but because he's put the work in to sell the retcon within the wider reinvention of X-Men history. I'm entirely loving it and can't wait to see where he goes with it.
But, and it's a big old humongous but, let's not pretend that this retcon doesn't change everything about who Charles Xavier has been since the birth of the X-Men. He's seen Moira's memories, and while (she believes) he doesn't have perfect recall of what he saw in them, his entire history has taken a 2'4 to the noggin because of them. The Charles Xavier we were reading about before HOX/POX was a dreamer with an imperfectly restrained dark side who screwed up almost as much as he inspired and yet never gave up honestly believing that the example of his students could lead to mutant/human co-existance. The Charles Xavier we've been reading about since HOX/POX debuted knew his Dream was doomed and, if Moira's journal entries are to be believed, his stumbles into evil have been at least partially the result of him knowing this but being unwilling to admit it.
So yeah, the retcon has fundamentally changed the Xavier we were reading about into a different character with a radically different history. I don't see how anyone can be in denial about this.
And regarding the Magneto stuff, your point is taken. Can't a man exaggerate just a little to make a point? 8-)

Yeah, I hold my hand up about the exaggeration. OTOH, Xavier was conspiring with the X-Men's main enemy behind their backs and sealed the alliance with him through secret information he - still - hasn't revealed to his own 'children'. And now that you mention it it now occurs to me that a lot of Magneto's history needs looking at through the prism of HOX/POX's revelations as well. He's known about the Doomed Future for a good long chunk of X-years.
Sinister, OTOH, didn't that issue of HOX make it plain that he dodged Xavier's mind-blank and remembered the recruitment only too well?
