It's a double entendre referring to South African traditional medicine and his being Mutant. ‪‪I imagine it's a matter of reappropriating and reclaiming the slur, as is quite common in real life.

I don't remember him saying he or his parents are from South Africa so that doesn't make sense. Where does this scene indicate the writer knows Mutie is a racial slur?

The explanation is right in that panel.

Why assume that’s not what’s being said in the text?? It’s pretty common knowledge what “mutie” means.

The book that includes Moses Magnum of all people definitely was written without awareness of the meaning of one of the most common words in all of X-Men comics.

Is that his real name or a moniker he uses? 'cause if it's just a moniker...

I don’t see anything wrong with that. He never said it was his birth name and considering he has a habit of making fake IDs he likely he made it up. If anything it shows that there’s at least some Wakandan mutants that are interested in adopting foreign cultures as mutie is more of a Western thing.

I would LOVE to see more mutants from Wakanda, Madripoor, Latveria, and other fictional Marvel countries. That should complicate things quite nicely.
