Default The 10 best aquatic horror movies of all-time

Obviously, most people will (justifiably) choose Jaws (1975) as #1. It is not just my all-time favorite aquatic thriller but my all-time overall favorite movie.

but here are the other nine listed in this article. Any comments about the list or any to add that was missed?

Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954)
    Piranha (1978)
    Leviathan (1989)
    Deep Rising (1998)
    Deep Blue Sea (1999)
    Dagon (2001)
    The Shallows (2016)
    The Shape of Water (2017)
    Underwater (2020)

The Shape of Water is not a horror movie.

LOL, Leviathan and Deepstar Six coming out at around the same time as the Abyss (which is not a horror movie!) was probably the first time I ever noticed Hollywood copies and doubles (like Antz and A Bug's Life) as a kid.

Glad Underwater made the list, I don't feel like it really got the attention it deserved, I heard almost no one talk about it, but it was pretty impressive actually. I went with my mom and grandma and we all enjoyed it (I know because our theater also happens to be part of a large casino complex and half the time grandma disappears during a movie to go gambling, but she stayed till the end that time).

I also liked Underwater, and while Kristen Stewart had been below my movie radar for a long time now, I thought she was fun here and in Charlie's Angels. It's just too bad she kept getting gigs for whipping post movies most no one wanted to see nowadays in theaters.

But I'd still swap Underwater in a heartbeart for Paramount's Crawl in an an aquatic horror listicle. Crawl is, like, the The Dark Knight of alligator attack films.

I'd replace The Shape of Water with The Meg. I mean, what could be better than Jason Statham versus a 75 foot prehistoric shark?

I still haven't seen Crawl yet, but it's definitely one of the movies I mean to see eventually.

    ^^^agreed!

I’m glad the incredibly underrated DEEP RISING made the list, though.
I came in specifically to list that one.

Another underrated classic I'd put ahead of The Shape of Water:

    The Host (2006)
