at this rate, we can go back to the old days of drive in - u can keep social distancing with a car
Post-reopening but pre-vaccine: Theaters limited to 50% capacity. Cineplexes should probably limit to no more than 2 or 3 titles at once, with more popular movies playing in more theaters. Snack bar should serve only individual servings of snacks... no giant tubs of popcorn that everyone dips into. No groups larger than 6, nobody with symptoms of illness admitted.
Pre-vaccine but if there is an effective treatment available: ease up, but still keep theaters below capacity, still limit group sizes and nobody with symptoms admitted.
Post-vaccine: Go nuts.
Theater chains are taking a bloodbath, expecting $1 tickets or any kind of huge specials is probably unrealistic. AMC might not even come back.
Can theaters survive financially only being half or a third full and showing less movies to stagger the lines?
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
Throw a movie on the screen. Hand me my bag of popcorn.
I don't need some grand re-opening. I just want to see a movie in theaters again.
Last Read: Aquaman & The Flash: Voidsong
Monthly Pull List: Birds of Prey, Daredevil, Geiger, Green Arrow, Justice Ducks, Justice Society of America, Negaduck, Nightwing, Phantom Road, Shazam!, Space Ghost, Suicide Squad: Dream Team, Thundercats, Titans
The chains are going to get lots of support from both the industry and the government. They will be OK.
Great, so you'll swing by my place and take me to the drive-in whenever I want to see a movie? Because I don't have a car.
I think drive-ins are the wrong way to go. We're trying to get away from car culture. And I don't think it would work in other countries where the car isn't used to the extent that it is in the U.S. and there isn't as much land to waste on paved over nature, with no buildings and no industrial usage.
I'd like a return to movie palaces--with distanced seating and luxury, where ushers help patrons to their seats and there's a good cleaning after every showing. You'd have to pay more for tickets, but going to the movies would be an event. And there would be a full bill--so short features, cartoons and documentaries would be shown in addition to the main event.
I also think that movies will have to roll out across the country and around the world on different dates--rather than day and date releases--because the prediction is that CORVID-19 will be with us for some time to come. It will pop up in different places at different times and each locality will have to react swiftly and shut down immediately to contain the spread.
Agreed. Drive-ins are the best . I hope they make a big comeback.
Low ticket prices, double feature, better selection of food that is reasonabilly priced. You can go in your pajamas or sweats, take your own food with you if you want. Drink if you want assuming you aren't driving.
I wish we had more of them nearby.
For urban areas where that might not work maybe the traditional theaters could do like some kind of box seating to separate people a bit more.

My multiplex is a part of a whole casino and hotel shindig. It'll come back no problem.
