I'm pretty sure Ed Brubaker had a letter published in Firestorm.

Indeed. Issue 18 from November, 1983:

The great part of having those Gitcorp DVD's of scanned comic books is that the scanned in all the pages, including the letters pages and the ads. I bought one years ago and at LCS in Illinois. I should pull it out and just browse the 44 years of Fantastic Four.

You'll see a lot of future pros' names in the 1960s comics (DC and Marvel) lettercols.

Roy Thomas was one of those; before he joined Marvel in 1965, his name pops up all over the place in various early 1960s lettercols in many Marvel and DC mags (including the Lois Lane comic! ). He was an avid, informed fan and as such he wrote a lot of letters back in the day.

What would be cool is if someone came up with a collected edition of letters pages with all of these early contributions.

These letters pages from Target Comics (published from 1944-1945) particularly stuck out to me, quite a number of them presumably being written by little kids, regarding females being involved with comics. I also recall talk from the editors saying more boys read comics than girls based on earlier letters, hence why there wasn’t as much focus on girl features until more girls started writing in, but interesting back and forth that went on here nonetheless:

In the early 1990s, Gladstone (or was it Gemstone) reprinted the EC titles from the early 1950s and they included reprints of the letter columns from back in the day. Those were a lot of fun and did a lot to build up the fandom for EC at the time. The readers were called fan-addicts and there was a club you could join.

So true. Roy was such a fan even as a kid! I liked when he worked for Marvel and added both himself and first wife Jeannie into the comics!

Hey there Shalla! It has been a long time. I hope everything is good with you and that you are well and staying safe!

Yes, I do remember that. When I am done with a few tasks I'll dig up that DVD and find it. I may scan through a lot of it just to see what I find!

Hey Phoenixx9, how are you?? You're right, it's been awhile

I'm doing okay, thanks. Hope you are doing well too!

And yes, loved it when remember Roy and Jeannie popped up at the Rutland Halloween parade in Avengers #83 -- as illustrated by Big John Buscema and Tom Palmer!

Indeed, such as his letter for The Brave and the Bold #34 (February, 1961):

A bit off topic but, I really miss the synopses that would appear on the first page of the old Marvel comics...:

And the corner boxes of course...:

If we’re putting together a book of letter columns, we need to have chapters for the various synopses and corner box art.

    EDIT
Something from the DC side of the house, the old Hembeck cartoons...:
