I feel like the 2003 cartoon had way too much influence on the TT franchise overall. Writers and artist borrow way too much from there when instead it should be the actual comics. Especially on Raven and Starfire because they came out the worst.

A mix of street crime and a dash of supernatural stuff, would be cool. Make it sort of 'mystic noir.'

And yeah, she seems like the sort who might go for piercings / bindi stones / henna, but nobody on Azar seemed all that into ink, and were all about smooth solid colors, so I think tattoos would be out of character.

Definitely agree that I prefer old-school teleporting empath w/ bird-soul-self to what we have now. I liked the flying darkforce using version from the cartoon, as well, but don't really like them being merged, and that version creeping into the comic book version.

I feel like that's kind of an issue, not just with Raven, but with Jackson Hyde slowly becoming more and more like Kaldur'ahm, from Young Justice, and that's kind of annoying.

I don't think this is the same issue. Jackson and Kaldur being treated as two different characters is just confusing and messy. They should just be the same character especially since Kaldur was the basis for the overall character. Having two versions of essentially the same character is just unnecessary. Many characters came from animated shows and then into comics which is what they should've just done.

As for Raven, her problem is that the cartoon influence outwayed her comic self.

It's a double-edged sword because their portrayals in the cartoon arguably made them even more popular so now there's a need to work from that and mesh it with who they are in the comics.

It's like the same problem Marvel has attempting to make everything match what the MCU is doing.

They should just make Kaldur his Atlantean name and just go on from there.

Yeah, that's what I would do and other sources outside comics do.

From what I've read of her, I agree on the tattoos. I don't really tattoos being something she would really do. Like I can see her having them, but I think it would more likely be something like "demonic marks mistaken as tattoos" rather than actual tattoos she got herself. I can definitely see her with more than the normal amount of piercings though - nose, tongue, navel, upper ears.

As for her job, what about something like a teacher or a nurse. I feel like either of those would fit her well...
She went to college but I don't know for what. I could see her becoming a nurse and healing patients when no ones looking.

My take on it is that Jackson v Kaldur is a kinda Elseworlds/What if dictonomy:

Jackson is the version raised by surface worlders.

Kaldur is the version raised by Atlanteans.

They essentially come from the same "stock template".

For a similar hero v (well intentioned?) villian compare the ironic Superman v Superman Red Son.

Curiosity - what is your favorite Raven story/storyline? I'm curious to see is there are one or two strong favorites or a more evenly-balanced/broad list of favorites.

I loved that one issue with her and Phobia and the early Trigon stories in NTT.
