Default Your Greatest Modern Runs by author

Quarantine yourself brings out the oddest ideas! Forgive me. But thinking of my most enjoyable arcs, runs, or anything in between with no real time constraint other than sometime “recently”.

    Brubaker’s Cap and Winter Soldier.
    Fraction’s Hawkeye and Ironman
    Deconnick’s Captain Marvel
    Liu’s Black Widow
Hickman’s Secret Warriors and Fantastic Four
    Bendis’ Daredevil
    Whedon’s Astonishing X-men

I’m exhausted, but so much more to be said here. Any favorites out there for anyone else. During this time of covid19, these are one’s I’d recommend.

    Got a lot I'd recommend!

My list (probably forgotten a lot):

Aaron - Thor God of Thunder
    Bendis - Daredevil
    Brubaker - Cap
    Ennis - Punisher Max
Fraction - Iron Man, Immortal Iron Fist
    Hickman - Secret Warriors, HoX/PoX

Spencer - Superior Foes of SM

Also a fair few non-Marvel comics but I've left those out...

Al Ewing on Hulk. This just might end up being THE greatest run on the Hulk of all time.

Ellis on Moon Knight. Short but sweet.

Hickman on New Avengers and Fantastic Four.

    Cates on Venom.

Bendis on Ultimate Spider-man and Daredevil.

    Remender on Uncanny X-Force

    Duggan on Deadpool.

    Spencer on Amazing Spider-man.

    King on Vision

    Ahmad on Blackbolt.

Brubaker on Captain America (this is one of the greatest ever).

Fraction on Hawkeye and Iron man.

I loved the characterisation and how modern it felt at the time. He was a writer who let Iceman do things and be a leader in an era where Bobby was mostly wallpaper. He lead a small band of X-men, people he barely knew on the run against Operation: Zero Tolerance. Kelly introduced Cecilia Reyes, who instantly became a favourite character of mine. Every comic I read of his was a joy to read, despite the fact he was getting overrun by editorial mandates who were dismantling his plans on a weekly basis. He didn't have the freedom Hickman does these days. Carlos Pacheco and Peterson were his artists, as well.

Marrow and Sabra were excellent under his pen. Obscure characters I could care less about who stole scenes like they we born to be X-men, then they left after Kelly did.

Edit: Wait, Marrow stayed longer only to lose her edge.

Dan Slott's Amazing Spider-Man/Superior Spider-Man (Superior is basically a continuation of Slott's Amazing so I think it counts)
Brian Michael Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man (Bendis is not the most well-liked writer in comics nowadays, but this runs proves that he can be a fantastic writer)
    Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
    Jeremy Whitley's Unstoppable Wasp
Nick Spencer's Superior Foes of Spider-Man
Matt Fraction's Hawkeye (Issue #3 of this series is the most perfect single-issue story from any comic ever)
