I wish her costumes that don't riff on the training uniform were...idk...flashier? The black w/ blue accents is cute and practical but its what everyone else is doing lol. the hints of orange on the goggles in that one look are such a welcome pop of something. that's why I'll always dig the gauntlets, they're something uniquely of hers that can be played around with stylistically. like Scott's visor, wolverine's mask, its a piece that could be elevated to iconic status. standing out is really the only chance the younger characters have when the most they're currently getting are cameos and bit parts

They tried some sleeker and smaller versions of the gauntlets a couple of times. I thought it hurt her look. Much preferred something on the bulky-cyberpunk-steampunk spectrum.

I don't mind the sleeker gauntlets, she's a speedster after all, if they're too bulky it seems like they'd be hard to run with.

How old is she supposed to be anyway, I'd rather not dream up potential pairings for her and such if she's to young as I don't know her history, or whether she'd work with the older X-characters because of it...

damn it Tycon you stole my idea. I've literally got a thread-in-progress with a bunch of modern Krakoa worldbuilding ideas. But yeah given the electromagnetic pulses on Krakoa wiping out any foreign tech, I think that makes sense for Surge (and thus Karma, Hellion, Face etc.)

I like how Iron Giant-y the gauntlets can be made to look. Simplified versions just make artists look lazy.


Trying to remember the timing: Did Surge introduction overlap with Jolt over in Thunderbolts popularity? I have a vague recollection of the characters being compared as too similar because of the surface likeness of both being Asian Teen female electricity wielding speedsters.
