I think Mel Dyer was the one that pitched the idea that Clea is an ancient space conqueror that has moved from world to world founding empires and watching them fall, and then starting fight from the beginning.

Ventura was just another world she founded and came to conquer. I really like that idea. I don't think the connection between Wonder Woman and Atlantis is necessary. But if they wish to highlight that idea, than go all out and create a crossover about the relationship between Atlantis and the amazons. Not a war between the two worlds, but a union to stop Clea. Could be an opportunity to get back the sci fi element of the amazons

I did suggest something, awhile back, about opening Clea's backstory up, to include a murderous, thousands-years long history of conquests, ..across the Earth and beyond it - maybe, including other worlds. I think writers would do well to break Clea out of being limited to ocean-themed adventures, because it limits what they can do, with her, and, most importantly, ..it limits how she can threaten Wonder Woman.

"...Clea is obsessed with the conquest of two, Atlantaean kingdoms, Venturia and Aurania, which is confusing for DC Comics fans, who readily associate anything 'Atlantis', ..with its superhero-king, Aquaman. For sake of narrative clarity, going forward, and opening up our idea of what she can be - what role she can play in the Wonderverse - I would see Clea made 'her own thing'. I would prefer seeing Clea established, as NOT being a native Atlantaean and, instead, ..the immortal conqueress of other realms, countless realms and people, ..long before she had ever settled in that fabled land.

For me, Clea's being able to psionically change her appearance, at will - to look like any people, throughout history, which she chose to conquer - would explain her obscurity, as a Wonder-villain, and lay the story-work for writers to retcon her, more fully and centrally, ..into the Wonder mythos. "Was I Livia, whispering into Augustus's ear? Maybe, Sisostris was a woman! Maybe, I'm Darkseid! Maybe, I was here, all along, like Lookee, on She-Ra, clogging up the pipes--mwua'haha!"

Ares is an awesome cosmic threat, ..but, Clea could be equally awe-inspiring. I think Clea could be the WW comic's Darkseid, with the right stories, and she could certainly be Diana's Kurgan.
