I always prefered the class XX range or category classification, then the Bench press XX or above method. Sure, everybody knew that when you said someone was in the class 10, class, 15, or class 25 range, they were thinking in tonnage, but I think just not being explicit gave a lot of wriggle room. A LOT has changed about that postage in the 80s, however, even then, I always found that Spider-man would be much more at home in the company of Beast, Spider-Woman, and an early in his carreer Captain Britain, than in the company of the likes of Power Man, She-Hulk, Valkyre or Colossus (even a younger one).

Super strength has pretty much always been written as all over the place for a lot of characters...pretty much based on what the writer needed them to do in a story.

What I find humorous is the number of characters that experienced increases over the years in order to put them in the same conversation as some of the then elite powerhouses. And it's not just in terms of strength, but other powers as well. With all of these godly beings running around the planet, it's any wonder that there is any crime, victimization or suffering to speak of at all.
