Ditto. I liked that she had an assortment of powers, and that 'the Green Flame' could do funky things like change her clothes, fly, create illusions or burn hot or cold.
(Having it shoot out of her nostrils? Not so much.) Turning her into a green Human Torch was a big downgrade, IMO, and it always disappoints me when DC loses confidence in a unique character of their own and retcons them to be like an established Marvel character.

Her original power set wasn't original and more just a mish mash of powers other characters had.

Her new power set included turning intangible and fire breath. Neither is original either but they are two things the Human Torch can't do.

"Retcons them to be like an established Marvel character" When has DC ever done this? Given how similar Marvel and DC already are (despite what some people claim) I doubt it's ever really that simple.

While most people don't like the post-Giffen/DeMatteis thru Zero Hour era of the Justice League titles, I think Vado, Waid, and Jones did some good work with Fire. After Jurgens seemingly regressed her characterization to "shallow bimbo", they toughened her back up, and showed the emotional rollercoaster that comes with losing ones best friend. I like to think that Rucka picked up where they left off when he was writing her in Checkmate.

I also really liked Marc Campos rendition -

I too really enjoyed the League during this time. Each of the books had their own district flavor and the cast was so interesting on each! I would love to see the return of young Maya and Rucka's use of Fire really drove home the secret forces stuff Vado put in.

His design for her (when not aflame) is still the best one. Fight me.

Hmm. Starfire was based on a Brazilian beauty.

Fire actually IS a Brazilian beauty.
