Default Cool Characters Who Probably Flopped For Costume Design Reasons?

Alan Scott has a great origin, powerset, and personality, but his original costume didn't do him any favors when it came to stacking up against the World's Finest.

    Honey, what was you thinkin'?

Glow up. Too little, too late.

Can you think of any other characters like this, from any era?

    Alan Scott Flopped?
His costume is out there, yes, but it was meant to be dramatic. That second "fixed" one you posted is generic, forgettable garbage.
And hasn't Alan Scott's and his costume lasted longer than most of the crap put out now. and then brought back for a second run in the Silver Age, and then again post Dark Age, How is his character considered a flop?

People deeply resented the Lobo New 52 design. You can argue that he shouldn't be "played straight" but the comic itself didn't deserve backlash just over the design.

Didn't he kill Old lobo (or...a character designed to look like him because N52 reboot bs ) then claim "Old Lobo stole my name" thats gonna create alot of anger

Lobos so weird, started off fairly straightish, then became a cartoon where he really his his stride.

I'd be fine with Nu Lobo if he was a blood clone that fucked up

Completely disagree - his costume can sometimes look a bit much, but even the image you use as reference looks pretty good, imo.

I think Aztek might've fared better if he hadn't had the problematic sunburst/statue of liberty helmet and an almost all-white costume. Not a good design, imo.

Yeah, I've got to object to the OP characterizing the original Green Lantern as a flop. He was one of only 5 Golden Age DC characters to have his own title (only 3 on the AA side) for the better part of a decade. He was the anchor of All-American Comics from its 16th issue in 1939 almost up until its conversion to Western genre in 1949. Additionally, he was one of the draws for Comic Cavalcade, and he and Flash were brought back to prop up All-Star Comics late in WWII, after being promoted out to make room for lessor characters that faded before GL did.

So no, completely apart from the question of his costume, that character was not a flop.

Though maybe Alan ought to consider folding that collar down when he's in a scary woods at night. I mean, if he likes peripheral vision.

Well, he was replaced and is not the most well known incarnation. Not second or third most known either. Never reached Trinity or Captain Marvel status, even though he could have if he had the right artist during his debut. Batman almost had a design that bas, but it got scrapped.

Is there an Alan Scott ongoing I don't know about?

Purple, red, and green aren't complementary colors, by any design perspective. The main color on his torso should be green, but for some reason it's red. If red is kept, it should be an accent color or the color of his pants, not the main torso color. His logo took some refining and additional abstraction to look good.

Then why was he replaced when his Golden Age peers Bruce, Clark, and Diana were not?

Jack Kirby is the only artist who pulled off the 4th World without making it look hokey.
