I'm curious what are the differences creatively between how Marvel and DC do their events? Right off the bat, Marvel does more soft reboots of characters and stories while DC does more of a hard reboot a la New 52 and Crisis on Infinite Earths?

Most modern Marvel events try to rehash “Civil War” (heroes fight heroes) while most modern DC events are rehashes of either Identity Crisis (heroes have some dark secret) and/or Crisis On Infinite Earths (worlds die, continuity gets rebooted).
You have a better chance of reading a DC event!
Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress!
"The Marvel EIC Chair has a certain curse that goes along with it: it tends to drive people insane, and ultimately, out of the business altogether. It is the notorious last stop for many staffers, as once you've sat in The Big Chair, your pariah status is usually locked in." Christopher Priest
I don't think so.
DC has only done 3 hard reboots since the 30's :
- mid 50's - The Silver age Reboot
- 1985 - The Modern Age reboot (Crisis On Infinit Earths, aka COIE)
- 2011 - The New 52 reboot - until some stuff from before was braught back during Rebirth (2016).
One thing about DC's event, is that they can be read as one long ongoing storyline.
DC tends to focus on the metatextual reasons why the universe has changed and give it a in story reason for it. Hickman's Secret Wars was the first instance that I remember of something happening similar in the Marvel Universe.
Marvel events are heroes fighting heroes for reasons
One company, more often than not, works the word "Secret" or "War" into the name of the event, while the other one uses the words "Crisis" or "Night." That's...pretty much the main difference. Marvel and DC don't really have a lot differentiating them nowadays.

I feel that DC Events are more underwhelming but has more plot twists and things you just don't expect.
And Marvel events are more explosive but more straightfoward.
Of course there are exceptions like The Blackest Night, which is just one long drawn-out fight that lasts for 8 issues.
DC has got cash cow events while Marvel has got cash cow events.
