Default DC Next Dawn - May Solicits!

We present to you DC Next Dawn, a collection of all new fan-made issues on “sale” this month, MAY 2020!

What is “DC Next Dawn” and how does it work?

Next Dawn, previously known as “New Dawn,” is a fan fiction universe and solicitation game that has been in existence on the CBR boards for approximately ten years! It has gone through several iterations and has survived forum reboots! The way it works is that “plotters” write short solicitations for monthly comic books! Then participants “buy” the books they want to read! The books with the most buys get rewards. Sounds fun, right? So let’s do this! Which of this month's solicits interest and excite you? Let us know by posting which books you'd pick up in the virtual Next Dawn Store (this solicitation thread). You can pull as many as you'd like, but also consider your "virtual budget" when making your selections, as sales are used to reward our titles and plotters. Registers are open all month and sales are tallied at the end of the month.

Absolutely anyone can make purchases right here in this thread - so please do!. It’s free and is basically just saying “I’d read this” or “I like this!” So let us know!

If you want more information on Next Dawn or are interested in plotting yourself, please visit us at the Next Dawn Bullpen Thread.

    Behold! Our monthly archive!
This is the repository of our prior work; a compilation of all the monthly solicitation posts since the forum was reset in 2014.

    Miniseries
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by R. A. SALVATORE
    Art by JAE LEE
    “A MOUNTAIN OF MADNESS”
The unparalleled warrior Claw the Unconquered, aided by the beautiful Graxosian Elf ranger Narilla Rrab, has hacked and slashed his way through a long march. His quest: to find the only wizard capable of permanently removing the accursed demon hand of Belial from his wrist! At long last, he is closing in on the fabled Arion of Atlantis! Though several challenges yet lay before him...
After the Great Upheaval, the sorcerer Arion formed an Atlantean colony in a strange subterranean realm. He called it... Skartaris. Entrance to Skartaris, according to elven lore, is through the mouth of the dormant volcano Mount Ba’al, in the far north. It is this volcano that Claw and Rrab now look upon. Yet, in their way:
    I. An outpost of the Kingdom of Pytharia, filled with armed knights sworn to serve the immortal King Vandar Adg (Vandal Savage), who has declared Claw an enemy of the crown to be slain on sight.
II. A clan of orcs, green-skinned berserkers said to have devolved from shape-shifting and mind-reading gods from the sky.
III. A bizarre druid, capable of communicating with the beasts of the world, both large and small, and mimicking their abilities.
The only advantage Claw has is that these forces are also at odds with one another. Can he overcome them all? And even if he can, there’s still a more infernal danger: the young demon Etrigan will finally come face-to-face with the mortal he’s been pursuing for weeks! He seeks to end his own hellish quest, and to prove himself by reclaiming his father’s hand!

    THE FLASH #10
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by ROBERT KIRKMAN
    Art by FRANK CHO
    “UNTIMELY”
Iris West is getting rrreal tired of Booster Gold. Her on-again-off-again fiancé Barry Allen is lost in time, and Booster had a solid rep as a time-traveling hero. Yet the “agent” she was negotiating with to acquire his services turned out to be a weird floating roomba named Skeets (ew?) and, despite several temporal jumps, they still haven’t found Barry. To top it off, Booster is totally annoying and can’t stop talking about how the 2020 quarantine is a sham because in his time they’re up to like Covid-3467 and the viruses didn’t really get bad until after someone ate Man-Bat Beyond. She’s starting to suspect the guy is just some dudebro who stole a super-suit in the future... and now they’re trapped between the French and Mexican armies in the 1862 Battle of Puebla! Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Flash Fact: In The Song of Hiawatha, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote:
    Swift of foot was Hiawatha
He could shoot an arrow from him
And run forward with such fleetness,
That the arrow fell behind him!
Proving to be even more amateur a time traveler than Booster, after butting heads with his maternal grandfather in the 1970s, Flash attempts to run back home... and totally overshoots the mark... in the wrong direction! In the year 1550, he meets another speedster: Hiawatha, Chief of the Onondaga, who is attempting to unite the five Iroquois tribes against a deadly threat...
Meanwhile, in the present, the forces of Gorilla City have prevailed in Africa. Grodd now wears the skull of General Abioye Ezekwesili around his neck. This means the Light will need a new L36 - and that both sides of this war are about to escalate matters!

    GREEN LANTERN #10
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by MARK MILLAR
    Art by JOE MADUREIRA
    “NON THE ESSENTIAL”
Travel Advisory: Level 4. Do not travel. Circadia.
The strength of Non, a Kryptonian grunt, made him very popular among the insectoid women of Circadia. He fathered numerous clutches of half-bug super-boys... then abandoned them. But Hal Jordan’s lecture about the responsibilities of fatherhood (see GREEN LANTERN #8), might have been more effective than he intended... because Non’s back in their lives and assembling his unruly nuclear family into a conquering army! All hail King Non the Essential, ruler of Circadia, and his thousands of invincible heirs to the throne!
Kryptonians have certain weaknesses... among them, red light causes them to lose their powers. So if John Stewart wants to liberate Circadia, he’ll need units capable of wielding red light. That means he has no choice but to call upon his old partner, now a leader among the Red Lantern Corps, the rage-filled Guy Gardner! But Guy didn’t exactly leave the Green Lantern Corps on the best of terms... Will John’s solution turn out to be worse than the problem?
Meanwhile, Hal went undercover into the Galaxy-spanning Starro swarm to discover why it hasn’t advanced on Oa yet... but discovers that it already has! Starro weakens those in its path by sending spores to gain mental control over powerful defenders. So who on Oa is already infected?

    RED X #10
    Written by Marjorie Liu
    Plot by H-E-D
    Art by Riley Rossmo
Yggdrasil. The World Tree. Once believed to be merely a Norse myth, Leonard Lewis of Meridian has determined it is quite real.
It’s roots are intertwined with life itself, stretching into the souls of all mankind.
If one wished to control humanity, the subjugation of Yggdrasil would be sufficient to accomplish that end.
This, Doctor Sung has discovered, is what Meridian plans to use the Starheart to accomplish. And, somehow, Dick Grayson is essential to the process.
Unfortunately for Doctor Sung, the aftermath of murdering Guitez has left Dick catatonic!
This is more than simple trauma. There’s something else in Dick’s mind. A separate presence, snaking its way through Xenothium in the Red X suit. A nascent conscious. The Starheart itself.
Three times will the Starheart flare.
The first brought life, granting immortality to the Green Dragon, Chang.
The second brought death, as Red X killed the criminal, Guitez.
The third will bring power, as it instigates the Instrumentality of Yggdrasil.

… SAME AS THE OLD GODS #5
    Plotter: YOHEI72
    Writer: MATT FRACTION
    Artist: FRANK QUITELY
    Color Artist: F.C.O. PLASCENCIA
Scott Free and Big Barda are already beginning to regret their decision to let camera crews into their home for “The Miracle Family,” their new reality show. They want to present the picture of a loving home, but their producer, Graham MacQuoid, wants conflict, and isn’t above a little manipulation to get it - or even a lot. And it isn’t just ratings driving Graham. His strings are being pulled by forces bigger than even the media-industrial complex.
Meanwhile, Kyle Mason is finding even nihilism isn’t always an effective shield against the enormous stress of his first time in the director’s chair, especially since he’s starring as well, and a reality-show private eye is snooping around the set asking about the disappearance of the previous director. Worst of all, he was just starting to bond again with his estranged 8-year-old daughter and now can barely find time to get home – and he’s starting to have doubts about Granny’s, the nanny service that Godfrey recommended.

SONS OF DITKO #1 (DC Next Dawn/AOM-NU Crossover!)
Written by J.M.DeMatteis and Mark Russell
    Plot by CaptCleghorn
    Art by Brendan McCarthy
    Book 1: "A=A"
The Question takes part in the latest generation of CBR universal crossovers.
Vic and Tot are off to the Big Apple, New York City! But both men have different missions. Tot is on a busman's holiday to interview a couple of outstanding science students in NYC, one Peter Parker, and a pre-teen prodigy, Lunella Lafayette.
Sitting next to Tot on the flight to Newark (EWR) Airport (Hub City has NO flights to JFK or LaGuardia) is Vic. Vic is here for two reasons. The first is an interview with the Daily Bugle webpage and its publisher J. Jonah Jameson. Have we mentioned Vic wants to get the f*** out of Hub City?
The other item on Vic's travel agenda is finding a former college buddy and fellow journalist, Rex Graine. Graine and Vic met in college but eventually drifted as Vic lost focus and Graine became hyper-focused. Graine's latest pieces have been rather harsh and worrisome even to Vic. If the guy in a mask running around at night beating up bad guys is worried, there may very well be a problem.
Just to liven things up, Peter Parker is actually the NYC celebrity hero "Spider-Man"! And yes, he and Vic will actually meet this issue, so buy it already!

    Artist: JEROME OPEÑA
    Color Artist: MATT HOLLINGSWORTH
In an effort to save her village from his wrath, Kaira has once again entered the mind of the Swamp Thing and wanders the labyrinth of his buried memories. There, a seemingly minor, even absurd, incident surfaces: a camera crew for a shoestring-budget internet series on legendary creatures has blundered into the swamp in search of him. The stakes seem no higher than an annoying interruption of his self-imposed isolation. So why has this memory come to the fore? Is it random coincidence… or if Kaira pulls on this string, will it lead somewhere?

I swear it's sheer coincidence that both my issues this month center around reality shows. I barely ever watch them. Which doesn't stop me from having opinions about the whole genre.

Um, yes please? So many potential stories left on the table when they switched from David to Luke in RL DC comics. I wish this was real so I could read it!

I'm a big ol' history nerd, and Gorilla City is always a bundle of fun to visit. And Booster Gold? Basically tailor made for me.

Alien mind control is always a good angle. I've found it super interesting since binging the Animorphs books as a kid. And the Non plot also sounds hilarious.

Very cool concept! Will check that out as well.

This sounds super cute & interesting. Always love a good superhero couple.

Been a big "Swampy" fan since Morrison. This looks right up my alley!

OK, so I'm buying them all again.

ACTION COMICS #8 (Since he controls Kara's parents, couldn't Mister Mxyzptlk just have her parents ground her?)
BAT-WING #10 (Family drama is great, but do we ever see the awkward Thanksgiving dinners that follow?)
CLAW THE UNCONQUERED #3 of 4 (When you see unusual names in fiction, do you spell them nackwards and/or anagramize them? Or is it just me?)
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #10 (Life adjusts to whatever level you live it at whether you're saving galaxies or assembling bouquets)
DETECTIVE COMICS #8 (Note to self: when doing a biography, always cut in the subject for a share of the profits)
THE FLASH #10 (Other note to self: There's a big market for a book entitled "Time Traveling for Dummies")
GREEN LANTERN #10 (Non and insectoid women kind of pushes Rule 34 a bit too far, I think)
MYSTERY IN SPACE #8 (Pseudo-scientific comic book terms are awesome. But if the universe gets saved, it's even better)
THE OUTSIDERS #8 (A fine looking plot. Intense and personal)
THE QUESTION #10 (What is this crap about weeds? Is it possible the captain is stretching for titles that are questions?)
RED X #10 (See, this is the way to bring plant life into a superhero story)
… SAME AS THE OLD GODS #5 (Childcare is an issue for everyone. Does Granny's have a late night half-hour infomercial?)
SENSATION COMICS #10 (Diana and the Wonder Women is a great name. Being on the rings of Saturn is the perfect touch)
SONS OF DITKO #1 (I know what that checker board pattern means. I also heard next issue will break the internet)
SWAMP THING: SEA OF GREEN #8 (People always pull that string. They also press the button that says "Do Not Push")
