Default Team books vs. solo titles

Do you like reading your favorite heroes/characters in their solo adventures more or in their respective team books? For me, I like both. I like the progression of say Batman in his own titles and his interactions with the Justice League. Same with Superman, the Titans, etc.

Teams, I definitely go for teams over solos. First with teams I get that sense of a spanning universe, a team is where characters from all walks of life and history can come together and interact. I pick up Justice League and I’m getting stuff from Batman to Green Lantern to Superman all while dealing with the wider DC universe as it’s story landscape.

Second, I’ll admit that when it comes to teams it helps so that I can read characters that I like that don’t have solos. I really like Plastic Man, well unless he gets another mini-series looks like I’m only reading the Terrifics. I want to read Wondergirl, Tim Drake, Bart Allen, and Conner Kent I have to read Young Justice. Say what you want but Team books tend to pick up characters that I like that don’t go anywhere else.

Finally, I feel like I get more bang for my buck with team books. They generally go on to do more story wise and get involved in the bigger stories that are going with tie-ins. Can’t say there always good but at least they keep you connected.

Honestly? The solo stories by far. There's always more work to get a team book that has to spread the spotlight around and has to balance the characters just right to be good. Solo books lack that concern, and have an easier time of getting the character voice just right. The team books work best to highlight the characters that don't get solos - if you love fringe characters more you probably prefer team books, if you love best the big popular heroes with multiple titles, you probably prefer their solos over team books. At least that's my guess. And I'm not a huge fringe character fan so...solo.

There's some exceptions, but generally I prefer solo's. It kinda depends on the character/s.

With solo's you can dive deeper in the character and their world, you can push them and showcase their full potential without having to worry if you're making everyone else look bad. You've got villains designed to play well against the character, settings that compliment them and the narrative themes, all that stuff. Team books often hinge almost completely on the character interactions and that just seems a lot more thin to me. Fun and interesting, but thinner.

I think the biggest exception is the "mystery" character. The dude where, the less you know about them the more interesting they are. Characters like Wolverine or J'onn. I feel like solo books for characters like that reveal too much and it ruins the magic. I'd rather see a mystery character in a team book.

I’ll generally read a solo over a team book. Team books usually need a strong roster membership for me to be interested.

    I prefer teams, myself.
But they have to have at least three members that don't appear anywhere else.

And I'm not big on teams that have no membership changes.
At least once every two years, someone new should join.

Wonder Woman solo because they tend not to be personal enough in Justice League
    Superman with family
    Batman with family
Nightwing with very specific people since I haven't really enjoyed him alone or with a team, but I really enjoy him with specific characters like Damian, Jason, Bruce, Wally, Clark... I guess I say duo or trio
I guess my answer is mostly solo

    Teams definitely

Growing up, the only super hero book I read was Justice League of America

    Then I got into:
    New Teen Titans
    Legion of Super Heroes
    All Star Squadron

After the Crisis, I got into:
    JLI/JLA/JLE
    L.E.G.I.O.N.
    JSA

At the moment, I am starved for Green Lantern (Hal) to be on a good JL book. We've had a bunch of good solo Hal stuff since Rebirth, and no good runs of him with the League. The times where he's shown up he usually has a few quips, makes a few constructs but barely affects the story. I would love to see him with the League in a book that actually has them interact in meaningful ways and delves into the dynamics between the team members.

Wildfire is one of my favs, but he needs to be on the Legion. Guess it makes sense since he's never been a solo act and literally has no life outside the team.

Solo because I really really don't like the Batfam and a writer would have to work really really hard to shove Tim Drake into a Green Lantern or Atom solo.
But then at the same time I do like characters interacting with people from other (non Bat) franchises. Hal and Arthur are fun but aren't close enough to appear in each others solos.
Really I think I can enjoy team books but enjoy solos more regularly.

It depends on the hero. It also depends on what you call a "team".
For exemple, to me you cannot read Batman and skipping the "Batfamilly" or you cannot read Green Lantern without the other lanterns.
Same for magic characters, they work well in team sur as the Justice League Dark.
    Kids also work well together.

Other adult team, i'm not so kean on, the stories are never that good and repeat themselves a lot.

I've always leaned toward solo titles, maybe because there tends to be better character development for the character I want to read about there. I can't actually think of a favorite comic of mine that is a team book.

Team. I usually enjoy team interaction over solo stories.

That's a really hard question for me. I regularly read an assortment of both and enjoy them for different reasons.

They each tend to have a specific focus in terms of storytelling and structure. If absolutely pushed I'll say solo books. Just.

It depends on what teams. Characters designed for teams tend to work better in team books than solo characters thrust into a team. Doom Patrol can be a great team book. Similarly, on the rare occasions DC lets them be, the Titans make each other better when they are working as a team. The whole is greater than the sum of their parts, and most of the individual members aren't really interesting enough to sustain solos for too long, so a team book ideally works better for them.

Whereas the JL is comprised mainly of DC's biggest characters who have sprawling mythologies of their own which they are the center of. It's cool seeing Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman interact with each other, but mos of the time they are way more interesting on their own and have plenty of their own cast and villains to interact with. For those characters I prefer solos.
