Mike Johnson to publicly release 44,000 hours of sensitive January 6 footage

Of course he is .... the idiots .....

House speaker Mike Johnson said Friday he plans to publicly release thousands of hours of footage from the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, making good on a promise he made to far-right members of his party when he was campaigning for his current job.

“This decision will provide millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations and the media an ability to see for themselves what happened that day, rather than having to rely upon the interpretation of a small group of government officials,” Johnson said in a statement.
The newly elected speaker said the first tranche of security footage, around 90 hours, will be released on a public committee website Friday, with the rest of the 44,000 hours expected to be posted over the next several months. In the meantime, a public viewing room will be set up in the Capitol.
The move by Johnson will grant the general public a stunning level of access to sensitive and explicit January 6 security footage, which many critics have warned could endanger the safety of staff and Congressmembers in the Capitol complex if it gets into the wrong hands. The hours of footage detail not only the shocking assault rioters made on US Capitol police as they breached the building but also how the rioters accessed the building and the routes lawmakers used to flee to safety.
It is all part of a larger effort by Republicans to redefine the narrative around the deadly insurrection after the findings of the House January 6 committee last year. The select committee of seven Democrats and two Republicans spent months painstakingly documenting, with testimony and video evidence, how Trump rallied his supporters to head to the Capitol and “fight like hell” as Congress was certifying his loss to Democrat Joe Biden.
How do you redefine an assault on the Nation's Capital?

You re-edit the footage that shows the rioters were peaceful and the Capitol guards were at fault. You also show how heroic the Republicans were and how cowardly the Democrats were.
Mind you, what he is doing is giving intel to the people who assaulted the Capitol so they can be successful next year. He supported the insurrection.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Colorado judge agrees Trump incited insurrection, but lets him stay on ballot anyway

Coward. You had the judicial authority and moral imperative to establish that a president is not above the law, and you blew it.

If that judge ruled in favor of kicking Trump off the ballot, then his lawyers would’ve filed an appeal instead. In any event, this case will inevitably wind up before the Supremes.

    Yeah...

If only there was a simple, pragmatic move that a group of Democratic politicians could have made that would have kept the guy from being Speaker...

If only Americans had voted against Trump and for Hillary so the inusurrection would have never happened in the first place.

Instead of constantly complaining about emails and attempting to demonize Democrats and not holding Republicans accountable for their own actions.

Johnson is not the problem -- the Republican party is the problem.

Abbott, DeSantis, Trump, McConnell, Tuberville -- if you're pointing the finger at Johnson then at this point you're intentionally ignoring the much bigger issue at hand.

McCarthy did not deserve the position of Speaker and Republicans are adults -- Democrats are not responsible for Republican choices or actions.

    -----

"Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he does not regret sharing footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson despite receiving bipartisan blowback, arguing that the decision was made for transparency.

“No,” McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday when asked if he regretted granting Carlson access. “I said at the very beginning, transparency. And so what I wanted to produce for everybody is exactly what I said. The people could actually look at it and see what’s gone on that day.”

McCarthy’s comments came one day after Carlson aired never-before-seen angles of footage from the Jan. 6 attack on his prime-time show, rejecting the notion that the day was a “deadly insurrection” and instead describing it as “mostly peaceful chaos.”

Appeal fodder or not, that ruling made no sense and set a very bad president for future Presidents. .

Keeping the current Speaker from being able to become Speaker?

That is holding Republicans responsible for their actions.

You just don't get to hold every Republican responsible if you see that it is important to hold more extreme Republicans responsible in the rare instance where you have the leverage to do so.

Holding Republicans accountable for their actions is voting them out of office -- not complaining about Democrats on message board forums.

If you weren't being hypocritical then you would blame Republicans for releasing Jan 6 footage and doing what McCarthy was going to do anyway.

Again -- Johnson is doing the same thing as McCarthy planned to do only McCarthy chose to release the footage to Fox News first for early Republican spin.

One could just as easily criticize Democrats if they kept McCarthy as Speaker after he released the footage to Fox News given their support of Trump.

And repeatedly claimed that Republicans will release the Jan 6 evidence to the public as well as impeach Biden.

You are blaming Democrats for Republicans choosing two unqualified speakers who both released Jan 6 evidence -- one directly to white nationalist Tucker Carlson.

Just like you and many Americans blamed Hillary for her "emails" but not Trump for his blatant racism, sexism and authoritarianism -- with easily forseeable results.

It's hard not to laugh if you take a look at what is in blue, and take even so much as a cursory look through this thread...

    By that logic?

Nothing is this thread even warrants getting typed and posted.

Only Republicans actually being voted out of office out in the world where one can actually cast a ballot.

This is logic -- that McCarthy already released the evidence to Fox News and that you are trying to make Johnson look extreme for doing what McCarthy intended.

And what the majority of Republicans voted for.

That you are focusing on Johnson solely to criticize Democrats is par for course -- just as it was with Hillary's emails.

The only way your logic would make sense is if McCarthy had argued against releasing the Jan 6 footage to the public rather than for it.

Instead -- he released it directly to Fox News and helped spread misinformation about the insurrection.

McCarthy did not deserve to be Speaker of the House and nothing Johnson says or does will change that fact.

This didn't seem like it made national news. While I thought that tents as a solution was almost a non-starter in Illinois, this just seems even less workable.

Mayor Johnson is imposing a “tiered” 60-day limit on migrant stays in city shelters
Asylum-seekers will soon be subject to “a tiered 60-day shelter stay limit” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson announced Wednesday, a move that follows in the footsteps of New York City and comes as thousands of migrants still sleep in police station lobbies because of a lack of sufficient shelter space.

Johnson also announced the city would begin to fine bus companies transporting migrants who don’t abide by the city’s curfew, specific landing zone locations or loading and unloading rules. Staff will also be increased at points of arrival “to facilitate connections to other destinations for individuals who do not wish to stay in Chicago.”

Details were scarce on the new shelter rules specifics, although Johnson’s administration said more information would be released Friday when the policy is set to go into effect. The move is the most hard-lined effort yet Johnson’s made to manage crowded shelters, as winter approaches and the city’s “winterized” base camps have yet to be constructed.

Johnson said the shelter limit will be paired with “robust case management and workforce access to move new arrivals through our system to self-sufficiency and economic stability.”

We're very lucky the coup on January 6 failed.

We're very unlucky that about half of US voters want this guy who is equal parts mob boss and fascist to make a comeback.

Many Republicans share Trump's values and many independents don't recognize the historical precedent at work -- or authoritarianism in general.

Others repeatedly downplay or ignore the obvious and hope that continually playing with fire doesn't eventually burn them as well.
