This is why Trump still has a good chance.

How prepared are these 7 battleground states for the election? A readiness report

Engineered chaos and years of voter suppression by the GOP has all been leading towards this moment. North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania are in especially bad shape. It's sad when even Florida is ranked higher in election day readiness.

In Georgia, the state’s voting machines have malfunctioned in three consecutive elections this year alone.

In Pennsylvania, election officials are staring down possibly the biggest ballot processing backlog in the country, with no means of even touching the ballots until polls open on Election Day.

And in North Carolina, thousands of submitted absentee ballots are currently in purgatory, neither rejected nor accepted but “under review,” amid a back-and-forth court battle over so-called ballot curing.

Irony about Trump and North Carolina In 2016:

Native NCers were sick and tired of the NY people coming down to NC and turning NC blue. So it was a spite job. ( I know because when I lived in South Carolina and did all my work in NC. Those said New Yorkers were just, really bad.)

Since he emerged from the primary, it's been run highly competently. We haven't seen any surrogates have any self-owns on cable news. The question was always going to be, "Is Joe Biden going to be a gaffe machine?" And he hasn't, for the most part. When he has had slips, they've been minor, and his people have spun them right away. Same goes for Kamala. They've also taken Trump and Pence to task in ads for multiple f*** ups by the administration, hitting them hard on pandemic response in particular (low-hanging fruit) but not letting them off the hook for his taxes in stories, or the Russian bounties, or... you get the idea.

I don't think they've run a GREAT campaign. But a highly competent one. Which is what you want to see from someone who you're going to need to also run a highly competent White House when there are 3-4 national crisis situations unfolding at once.

It hasn't been a question that's worth spending too much time. They don't have to be faster than the tiger, they have to be faster than the other guy. And if you look at the Trump campaign's complete disarray. Trump 2020 had their first campaign manager waste so much money they had to pull ads in swing states. They've relied on "October surprises" that are obvious smears and Russian disinformation campaigns that have fizzled. Their candidate has been off his rocker the whole time, and his own stupidity and need for self-congratulations had him giddy to celebrate making another Supreme Court pick. The first campaign manager has been arrested for domestic abuse on his lawn shirtless. The second one also caught Covid-19 and had to go into quarantine during the final run-up while early voting is starting. Their entire campaign has been constant lies and conspiracy theories while the country has been enduring a plague, and the west coast is literally on fire. They've got not a single legitimate achievement to tout after four years, and are running as if Trump is the challenger, and Joe Biden has been president. It's... just stupid.

And then, Biden... running a highly competent thing looks re-e-e-eal good.
I was all-in for Biden in 2014 but his personal life changed all that.

I wanted to see Biden run for one term, hand-off to Duckworth or Harris, and guide the party to a post-Obama setup with Duckworth, Harris, Booker, & Franken with Pelosi, Schumer et al handing the party off to them to be the new leaders of the party.

I would say I am getting what I want, just 4 years later. And I would say Cortez is who is now tagged-in over Franken since he is out.

Obviously there is a lot of differences between this election and 2016, but the effect of Comey’s investigation announcement into Hillary’s emails cannot be overstated enough. Polls were already tightening but his announcement on Oct 28th sealed the deal.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton’s average polling lead nationally—which was much more volatile than Biden’s—peaked late on October 18 at 7.1 points, before dropping precipitously until it reached just 1.3 points on November 3, days before Election Day.

And the announcement was engineered by McConnell and Ryan and violated all DOJ protocol.

Yeah at this point just vote damnit. Poll stuff does not matter just vote. Literally.

Cockiness in polls and third party votes could kill this. The main objective is to get the orange nightmare out of there.

Yeah ... I have to admit, it makes me uncomfortable when I see people talking about how Trump has no chance at this point, because I feel like a lot of people were saying that back in the last election, too. And I feel like it's a problem because all of the talk about how done Trump is and how he can't possibly win and so on, it all just suggests to some people that they probably don't need to vote. You know, last time it was that he was such a joke, there's just no way he can win and etc, and I think a lot of people who had come out for Obama stayed home, partly because they figured it should still be fine.

The number of people who don't vote for whatever reason is probably the biggest problem with our political system, on a consistent basis. I could be wrong about that, but I really feel like there tends to be this sense of disconnect between the population and politicians, and the frustrating thing is that part of that is because so many people just sit it out...

Anyway, hoping that does not happen, this year! The world really can't afford it!

Yeah, though there is still a difference. Last time, the Democrats (Clinton in particular) were saying that themselves, this time Biden's saying the opposite. If Trump teaches us anything, people are liable to fall in with the one they favour. And from initial prospects there's definitely a steep rise in people willing to go out to vote.,

Is it still a problem? Yep. Is it to the same extent as last time? Not exactly. We'll see the results soon enough as more people vote.

And now for something completely different:

Connecticut town renames sewage plant after John Oliver

I love Last Week Tonight, and I love that he does these stupid things for real good causes, which in this case was $55,000 to local charities.

Jo Jorgensen for the Ls although Howie Hawkins for the Green party is polling higher than Jo Jo.

The Libertarians have only pushed themselves into Blue safe states and ones they think they can pull votes from Trump. Green and Socialist are only on liberal stronghold ballots. Justice and Social/Liberation candidates are on military/oversea and safe states (both red and blue).

For example, Texas has 7 candidates on their ballot and Washington have 5. In 2016, they had 12 and 17 respectively.

Yeah, I am a huge fan of Last Week Tonight. No disrespect to Trevor Noah, but I really feel like Oliver's show is the best spiritual successor to what they Daily Show was, at its best.

Regarding the polls, the uncomfortable truth was that Hilary Clinton in 2016 was uniquely unpopular (for whatever reason). And even despite said unpopularity, Trump defeated her by very thin margins in the battleground states.

Biden is not unpopular despite right-wing media's desperate attempts. Biden polling average has been considerable higher than Trump's and more people (by default) will vote for Biden than Clinton. Biden's town hall got almost a million more views than Trump's and that even extends to YouTube (which is pretty much alt-right central at this point) where Biden's town hall is still getting a lot more views than Trump's. Biden is polling near and around 50% meaning there really isn't room for any undecided voters to entirely swing the direction in other way.

The issue now is that people saying they will vote for Biden actually need to come out and vote for him. Because looking at those polls, Trump's base is going to come out and vote for him again. To counter this, people that failed to vote in 2016 (despite saying stuff to the contrary) need to come out and vote this time. I'm not sure if Biden can pull out the Obama coalition but if the opinion polls have actually been adjusted to take into account the "uneducated white voter" then he might not need it.

Yeah. Trump is now the guy in charge, did a bad job at it and has shown to be a crook.

Even so none shall slack off, vote damnit! And make sure it’s for sanity.

Watching some clips of Trump's latest ego stroking, it looks like they finally took him off the good med.
