    John Kennedy
Welcome to what is the 918th original profile here at “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day”, where we’ll be discussing the sitting U.S. Senator from Louisiana, John Kennedy, who was first elected to that office in 2016. Kennedy’s previous political experience was that, in the 1999 election, he was elected to be the Treasurer of Louisiana, and was, at the time, a Democrat. He spent sixteen years in that role, running an unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign in 2004 as a Democrat, and after he switched parties in 2007, ran another failed one in 2008 as a Republican. He finally won in an attempt to get to Washington, D.C. in 2016, where he slid into the seat left by Sen. David Vitter, who somehow remained in office as a U.S. Senator for Louisiana for a decade even after the public learned he allegedly solicited sex workers who would pander to his diaper fetish.

Somehow, we’re questioning which option for this seat was worse.

John Kennedy’s voting record is, like most Senators these days, sparse. Mitch McConnell barely allows votes to happen at all, so the only noteworthy things we really can say about his record as a legislator are, obviously, that he has voted for every member of the Trump Cabinet, all but three judges nominated by Trump, and of course voted against witnesses being allowed in the impeachment inquiry over Ukraine so that it was a “trial” in the Senate, that he then voted to acquit Trump in.

In a way that is in no way good for the nation, Kennedy has become a favorite of the DC media for being willing to run onto cable news and embarrass himself and not realize it. Repeatedly, he has gone onto CNN, Fox News, or whatever network will host him to thrust his own foot not just into his mouth, but right down his throat without any thinking. Among his worst public partisan comments:

Louisiana will not be given a chance to undo the mistake of electing John Kennedy to the Senate for another two years in 2022. We’re hoping they find a better option when the time comes, perhaps someone who doesn’t constantly look like they’re trying to swallow their own upper lip.

Interesting article of Fred Trump's potential links to Nazism in the 1930's. Even though the Trump family does have a history of working with Jewish businesses, there is some interesting smoke around Fred Trump's political beliefs.

Was Fred Trump a Nazi sympathizer? Sadly we will probably never know, but the Donald has some curiously dark views on success, biological determinism, IQ, & authoritarianism, but perhaps more disturbing of all, he promotes a "Cult of Personality" that usually resonates in facist and totalitarian regimes.

On another note, did a quick search on Qanon on youtube. The comments were, well, kind of disturbing. And a Men in Black quote comes to mind for it, "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet."

The last bit aside, the film really nailed it with that quote.

The Qanon thing is really the height of silliness.

It's just basically people inventing imaginary enemies for Trump. Basically, it's just people trying to convince themselves and others that the person they supported is incompetent, dishonest, corrupt and bigoted. It's a means to justify their wrongness and doubling down on said wrongness. It also highlights the rights' obsession with "protecting the children" which isn't something new, it's been an issue right from the days of the "seduction of the innocent" up to the "satanic panic" of the 1980s.

The problem comes in when people tend to fall for this nonsense. But it's not surprising because a large chunk of the country still holds on to regressive views on race, sexuality and gender; views that are inherently based in myths, stereotypes and lies.

I don't get why trump supporters get such a thrill when they call AOC dumb (especially considering what a dullard trump is) but I love it when she puts them in their place.

    QAnon fanatic Marjorie Taylor Greene:
As a blonde woman, I would like to take a moment to thank Congresswoman @AOC.

She has single handily put an end to all “dumb blonde” jokes.

Blondes everywhere appreciate your service and your sacrifice!
    AOC
Don’t worry Mrs. Greene, I completely understand why you need to swing + miss at my intellect to make yourself feel better.

You seem to have some trouble spelling your own insults correctly.

Next time try “single-handedly,” it’ll work better.

    Good luck writing legislation!

For Trumpanzees, , it's all about putting down anyone they view as inferior, most notably people of color, just like their fearless leader does. Thumbs up to AOC for the comeback to that harridan.

It’s over. RBG’s seat is getting filled

    https://twitter.com/senatorromney/st...897958914?s=21

Romney was easily the most likely Senator to not go lockstep with Republicans. He provides cover for a Collins and Mutkowski.

Oh and reports have been coming out that Biden was considering him for a cabinet position. Hopefully these fuckers can realize that starting from a position of wanting compromise is trash

Romney has decided that, based on past history and the Consitition, that to the winner goes the spoils. So, since the Republicans control the Senate and the WH is perfectly alright for them to choose a replacememt Supreeme Court Justice, even this close to an election. By that resoning, it was perfectly alright for the Senate to refuse to allow President Obama to slecetc a Supreme Court nominee.

His logic is beyond faulty, it's completley broken.

Romney supports holding a vote on next Supreme Court nominee

“I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the president’s nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications,” the Utah Republican said in a statement.

Romney said he was merely following the law in making his decision rather than taking a position based on the recent blockade of President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, during the 2016 election. Romney said the “historical precedent of election year nominations is that the Senate generally does not confirm an opposing party’s nominee but does confirm a nominee of its own.”

He added that his decision is "not the result of a subjective test of 'fairness' which, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. It is based on the immutable fairness of following the law, which in this case is the Constitution and precedent."

Can't help but wonder if Romney is doing this because he needs to win back supporters and voters after losing a bunch for voting for Trump's impeachment.

In the Twitter thread, someone said that Romney was permitted to vote for impeachment to make him look good (to a segment of his base). So I assume that now he is doing this to appease the other segments of his base. Or he is doing this because it is what he truly believes, that Republicans can do whatever they want so long as they have the power to do so.

Also, he seems to dislike the idea of a liberal-leaning Supreme Court.

Romney has basically showed he lost his spine. Guess were gonna have to see what Democrats can do to delay it and more. But while the country is struggling still , least McConnell is deciding to do something that helps no one right now.

Simpler than that. Collins and Murkowski absolutely can’t vote for this. He was permitted to vote for impeachment because it didn’t matter. This is cover for the other Republicans.

Romney won’t lose political points on the right for allowing a conservative SC Justice. Even if Trump is the one appointing them

He likely doesn’t care too much about that. He’s not up for re-election for four more years. He probably decided that overturning Row v Wade was worth his integrity.

They can delay it a week and 30 hours. Trump wants to go into the election giving the right a conservative Justice.

Notice the Lincoln Project was quiet immediately after her death and hasn’t said anything substantial about the seat.

The Never Trumpers wasn’t that seat.

Lincoln Project actually did come out and say he should not be able to appoint someone to that seat, so there is that. *shrugs*
