Fair enough. But the lunacy DeSantis commits in Florida wouldn't fly on a national stage. Besides, he'd have to get past Trump to win the GQP's nomination for president, and that seems unlikely. Speaking of Caramel Caligula:

Trump Says Capitol Riot Was Pence’s Fault: ‘You Can Blame Him for Jan. 6’

I wonder how Mopey Mike feels after having been shoved under that Greyhound by his old boss?

From a new CNN poll of over 1000 Republican voters:

I find it interesting that the number of Republicans who believe that there is concrete evidence that Biden stole the election has gone down so drastically, but that affected their personal beliefs on the matter much less.

Exactly. They rage and try to make other people's lives miserable instead. Storm capital buildings, terrorize drag queen story hours at libraries, rant and rave at school board meetings about the horrors of Critical Race Theory in Home ec and Math classes.

I had the same thought. But the difference between Desantis and Trump is that Desantis has a glass jaw. The minute the debates start, Trump will eat him alive.

There's at least that important difference that there was no Trump for Trump to get past; he thrived exactly because he entered a field full of weak opponents. DeSantis has one guy to beat, for the nomination. Just one very unpleasant guy.

There is always the remote chance that Trump could be taken out of serious contention by his indictments -- DeSantis is likely positioning himself to be a frontrunner if that happens.

Regardless, an economic downturn, one major social conflict, or even Biden's passing is all it might take propel Trump, DeSantis, Pence or any other Republican candidate to the office of the President.

Agreed -- better to be prepared than caught unaware.

Republican presidents have repeatedly proven that they have little to no respect for international norms and -- as with Trump and Bush -- they will all fall in line regardless of the harm it does our country and the world at large.

But many people will still vote for them because much of our country is still racist, homophobic, and fearful.

    -----

"In most countries polled, people make a stark distinction between Biden and Trump as world leaders. Nearly eight-in-ten Germans (78%) have confidence in Biden to do the right thing in world affairs; a year ago, just 10% said this about Trump. Similar differences are found in Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands, and in all nations where a trend is available from 2020 there is a difference of at least 40 percentage points.

As is the case with views of the United States as a whole, confidence in U.S. presidents has shifted dramatically over the past two decades, especially in Western Europe. In Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and France – four nations Pew Research Center has surveyed consistently – ratings for Bush and Trump were similarly low during their presidencies, while this year confidence in Biden is fairly similar to the ratings Obama received while in office...."

    Florida Men are fighting:
Rubio Slams DeSantis On Opposing Support For Ukraine

“I don’t know what he’s trying to do or what the goal is. Obviously, he doesn’t deal with foreign policy every day as Governor. I can’t compare that to something else he did or said, over the last few years because he doesn’t deal with it every day,” Rubio said. “It’s not a territorial dispute any more than it would be a territorial dispute if the United States decided that it wants to take over Canada or take over the Bahamas,” Rubio added.

    Mississippi continues being Mississippi.

NEW: Digital books depicting "homosexuality," "lesbianism" and other "sexually oriented materials" could be banned from Mississippi's public libraries and school libraries—for adults and children alike—under a bill the State House passed yesterday. #MSLeg
The bill's ban on digital books considered "sexually oriented" by state law includes those that depict things like masturbation, "physical contact with a person's clothed or unclothed ... buttocks, or the breast" and "homosexuality" and "lesbianism."
House Judiciary B Committee Chairman Rep. Nick Bain, R-Corinth, introduced the amended Senate Bill No. 2346 on the floor Wednesday. He told fellow lawmakers the goal is to “to protect minors from sexually illicit materials,” specifically pornography.
If you haven't covered him yet, feel free to add Nick Bain to the list.

Or a heart attack. OOPS! Did I say that out loud? My bad.

As for Qpublicans being on a “different path” if they impeached Trump, I’m not so sure. They were all in on the racism, xenophobia, homophobia, greed, trashing of the Constitution and reckless endangerment of all the norms that kept this country together while Trump was in office, they’d simply would’ve elevated someone else just as dangerous as Caramel Caligula, but far smarter as a politician. At present, that seems to be DeSantis.

It sounds like that bill would ban about 90% of books out there. I remember Christopher Pike books that I read back in junior high would have a smattering of light smut in them. Stephen King books have those kind of descriptors. Anne Rice novels. The list goes on and on.

At what point do these book bans end up before the Supreme Court? Even a conservative court would have to strike them all down for violating the First Amendment.

I'll be honest- I don't see indictments stopping Trump. He'll continue to run, and people would still vote for him. And I doubt there would be a conviction in 2 years- at the very least, he'll have his lawyers drag things out as long as possible, hoping to be sworn in again before any trial could proceed.

You have Trump complaining about Fraud 24/7 but can't provide a shred of evidence to back it up while you have the opposing side that literally has him on a recorded phone call asking Georgia for 13k votes...what more do you need?

I know his cult isn't pick of the litter but you have ears to listen to the information and a brain to process it. Do you really need somebody telling you what you heard?

At this point unless he's arrested or dies, I really don't want to read anything further about Trump.

Add Japanese manga which is very popular here in the States to the list since a goodly portion involves same sex relationships, yuri (girl’s love) and yaoi (boy’s love). As for book bans being struck down by SCOTUS, at the risk of sounding like a conspiracy freak, I’m not so sure.

I’ve already mentioned that as Trump’s strategy, delay the hell out of the proceedings in the hope of winning the election so he can hide behind the shield of presidential immunity from prosecution.
