In 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, as well as 2019, "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" published profiles of Steve Pearce, the sitting U.S. House Representative from New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, Pearce is the guy who advised furloughed workers during the 2013 Government Shutdown to just take out payday loans until the whole thing blew over, has written musings about how wives need to remember the importance of “submitting to their husbands”, and actually submitted a bill to drug test welfare recipients on the federal level, in spite of how horribly those programs fail at the state level. As well as, y’know, a pretty consistently terrible voting record. Oh, and back in 2011, Pearce told a group of Republicans at a conference that he thought the idea of men descending from apes was crazy, and thought it much more likely that they were descended from sheep. Pearce won re-election in the 2016 elections with 62% of the vote against Democrat Merrie Soules, thanks in part to the +5 lean New Mexico’s second has in favor of Republicans. In January of 2017, there was a bit of an uproar after several members of the GOP were moving to take funding away from the Office of Congressional Ethics, because at this point, the Republican Party isn’t even giving the pretense that they have any. And one of the people leading that charge was Rep. Steve Pearce, who actually defended the move, insisting that his third (yes THIRD) attempt to take away the funding for the OCE would not “gut” the organization, as was being reported. Other, more Democratic members of Congress pointed out that it would actually “kill” the OCE, because they weren’t mincing words. In his final term in Congress. Pearce missed more votes than any other member of the New Mexico delegation in Congress by far. Steve Pearce decided not to run for re-election to Congress in 2018, and has opted to instead run to be the next Governor of New Mexico at the age of 72. What really didn’t help his cause? Someone unearthed video of Steve Pearce speaking at a Republican event back in 2008 where he railed against same-sex marriage, warning that it might lead to “polymorphism” (whatever that means) and that liberal politicians then “can marry everybody in California with AIDS”. If that doesn’t sound homophobic enough, Pearce continued grousing over the idea that healthcare funding might in any way go towards patients being treated for AIDS. Not surprisingly, he only pulled down 43% of the vote against Michelle Lujan-Grisham, and now has shunted off to be the ancient chair of the New Mexico GOP. As such, we’ll retire his profile at this time and take a look at another wacky Republican today instead. (Current crazy/stupid scoreboard, is now 898-45, since this was established in July 2014.)

    Ronny Jackson

Welcome to what is the 898th original profile here at “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day”, where we’ll be discussing the Ronny Jackson, the former White House Physician and Navy rear admiral who is a 2020 candidate to try and be the next U.S. House Representative from Texas’ 13th Congressional District. We feel the need to remind everyone that this would be the same Ronny Jackson who gave a glowing review of Donald Trump’s health after taking office, even though he is visibly overweight, refuses to walk anywhere that he can’t ride on a golf cart, allegedly snorts crushed up Adderall to focus, can’t hold up a glass of water with one hand, eats nothing but hamberders and KFC, and himself had a plan to trick Trump into eating cauliflower by the cooks at the White House who mix it in with mashed potatoes. To say nothing of his administration of a test of Trump’s mental faculties and coming out to act like he was the pinnacle of intelligence because he successfully identified a camel. Ronny Jackson expects us to believe THAT guy is in perfect health, and not to believe our own lying eyes.

But then again, we’re talking about the same Ronny Jackson who throughout his tenure as White House Physician, who nicknamed “The Candyman” because of his willingness to sign off on any and all prescriptions for staffers, allegedly walking down the aisle of Air Force One at points to hand out pills to all the passengers. Oh, and he was also allegedly drunk. A lot. Per one account, he was so intoxicated on one occasion during the Obama administration that aides could not wake him, allegedly had at least one accident attributed to driving while drunk, and that he has an explosive temper that creates a toxic work environment for his subordinates.

These rumors are why it was believed that after Donald Trump decided to reward Jackson for speaking in such over-the-top glowing terms about his health with a nomination to run the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (even though Jackson has never worked in public health, whatsoever, and is highly unqualified), that
Ronny Jackson backed off his own nomination. Which made sense, considering the votes to confirm him weren’t there. And… think about that. The Senate confirmed Betsy DeVos to be Secretary of Education on a tiebreaker vote… but they didn’t think Ronny Jackson had a prayer of getting nominated and being able to do the job.

Anyway, Jackson still was willing to toady for Donald Trump, and rather than get a Cabinet post, instead opted to run for Congress in Texas’ 13th District, which the Cook Partisan Voting Index has listed as a +33 Republican lean on it. After endorsing Donald Trump’s stupid idea for a border wall, he narrowly won the GOP nomination with 55% of the vote, and is now is likely to coast to victory to take his drunken, temperamental act to the Capitol, where we’re sure he’ll never be the cause of any further embarrassment for the Republican Party. Nope, no way a propagandist with a drinking problem and is an amateur drug dealer could ever make headlines again…

Seems some people have learned nothing about 'excitement'. Can't say I'm surprised.

Agreed. Trump has undermined or attacked the basic foundation of our government. I want a president I can forget about and who knows the importance of institutions

Barr already didn't need added incentive to be in the bag for Trump, but now his ass will end up going to jail if he's not the sitting AG come January. So he's got even more incentive to keep Trump in power. He will pull some f***ery between now and January and let the rule of law be dragged further in the gutter more than he has to prevent the normal transition of power.
    2. Trump putting DHS goons in Portland, and wanting them in other "out of control" cities to quell protests there. Which, honestly, if he hadn't sent them, the protests would have remained peaceful, but the motherf***er cannot stand dissent, because he's an authoritarian loon.
    3. Just the simple visual of the physical White House right now.

They keep putting up more fences to keep anyone away from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and they're getting higher walls. Mexico ain't paying for any of this s***, either. But the paranoia about keeping people back is telling...

What I'm seeing is, if Trump is planning some last ditch manic freakout to cling to power, he's put goons in place to quell protests in major Democratic cities where they would spring up (New York, Seattle, Chicago, Portland, DC), and he's so carried away about putting a border fence around his own White House that it looks like he's expecting citizens to try storming the gates to lead him off to a guillotine or something. This administration doesn't plan ANYTHING well... and yet, it seems like they're either expecting violence, or going to be inciting the populace into a confrontation. They are gearing for a physical confrontation, and some last gasp "emergency" that Trump will call, and that Barr might try to justify as valid would provoke it.

I want to be wrong, but there are signs.
Meanwhile, Moscow Mitch and the rest of the GOP are happily in "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" mode, equally as in the bag as Droopy Dogg Barr when it comes to Trump. They could've stopped all this madness way back in January, but circled the wagons and chose not to, now they're in way too deep to get out, knowing that if Trump goes down, they go down with him. So, Republicans will blissfully look the other way while Trump singlehandedly destroys democracy as we know it, for them, it's party, and power over country, over the Constitution, over everything.

    How the Pandemic Defeated America

How did it come to this? A virus a thousand times smaller than a dust mote has humbled and humiliated the planet’s most powerful nation. America has failed to protect its people, leaving them with illness and financial ruin. It has lost its status as a global leader. It has careened between inaction and ineptitude. The breadth and magnitude of its errors are difficult, in the moment, to truly fathom.
Despite ample warning, the U.S. squandered every possible opportunity to control the coronavirus. And despite its considerable advantages—immense resources, biomedical might, scientific expertise—it floundered. While countries as different as South Korea, Thailand, Iceland, Slovakia, and Australia acted decisively to bend the curve of infections downward, the U.S. achieved merely a plateau in the spring, which changed to an appalling upward slope in the summer. “The U.S. fundamentally failed in ways that were worse than I ever could have imagined,” Julia Marcus, an infectious-disease epidemiologist at Harvard Medical School, told me.

Since the pandemic began, I have spoken with more than 100 experts in a variety of fields. I’ve learned that almost everything that went wrong with America’s response to the pandemic was predictable and preventable. A sluggish response by a government denuded of expertise allowed the coronavirus to gain a foothold. Chronic underfunding of public health neutered the nation’s ability to prevent the pathogen’s spread. A bloated, inefficient health-care system left hospitals ill-prepared for the ensuing wave of sickness. Racist policies that have endured since the days of colonization and slavery left Indigenous and Black Americans especially vulnerable to COVID‑19. The decades-long process of shredding the nation’s social safety net forced millions of essential workers in low-paying jobs to risk their life for their livelihood. The same social-media platforms that sowed partisanship and misinformation during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Africa and the 2016 U.S. election became vectors for conspiracy theories during the 2020 pandemic.

Republicans prep for leadership battle if Trump goes down

The maneuvering for power in a possible post-Trump world has already broken out among House Republicans — a worrisome preview for the GOP of potentially chaotic leadership fights this fall.

The party’s long-simmering divides were largely papered over after Donald Trump won the White House in 2016. But members expect the truce among the GOP’s warring factions to crumble if Trump’s presidency ends, and the current leadership could face the fallout.
How that will shake out for Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Minority Whip Steve Scalise and GOP Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney is not completely certain. But according to interviews with over a dozen Republican lawmakers and aides, there’s a growing sense that if Trump loses the White House — and the GOP fails to make meaningful gains in the House — the fight for the future of the party will play out in challenges across leadership.

“If Trump loses, there’s gonna be a mad scramble if we’re in the minority,” said one Republican lawmaker, who was granted anonymity to speak more freely. “There’s people seeing this as an opportunity. … I think it’s gonna be a real fight.”

So another insane morning with Trump rapidly tweeting out BS with school must reopen, misspelling Florida, bragging about massive crowds in Florida, and this nonsense.

In an illegal late night coup, Nevada’s clubhouse Governor made it impossible for Republicans to win the state. Post Office could never handle the Traffic of Mail-In Votes without preparation. Using Covid to steal the state. See you in Court!

The Republican Party Is Racist and Soulless. Just Ask This Veteran GOP Strategist.

When Donald Trump decided to back-burner the coronavirus crisis and reboot his reelection campaign with superspreader events in June, he headed to an arena in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to present his case for four more years. In front of an audience of maskless fans standing side by side, Trump performed his usual routine. He threw out buzzwords (“law and order,” “left-wing radicals”). He boasted. (“I have done a phenomenal job” responding to the pandemic.) He denigrated his opponent as “Sleepy Joe.” He obsessed over personal grievances and slights, devoting much time to slamming news outlets that had recently shown video of him walking gingerly down a ramp after delivering a commencement address at West Point. What was mostly missing from Trump’s speech: ideas.

Although he referred to his tax cuts for the wealthy, his appointment of conservative judges, and his “beautiful” wall on the US-Mexico border, Trump had little to say about economic policy, national security, health care, education, housing, the environment, and other subjects. Moreover, he offered no agenda for a second term other than vague promises of making everything swell. Days later, during a friendly Fox News “town hall,” Sean Hannity asked Trump to spell out his plans for a second term. He replied by rambling on about his inauguration and attacking John Bolton.
Asked if the Republican Party in the Trump years has become an outfit free of governing ideas, Stevens went even further: “It was all a lie.” He noted that this was word-for-word the title of his forthcoming book, It Was All a Lie: How the Republican Party Became Donald Trump. The modern GOP, he said, never truly cared about the ideas it claimed to care about.

This was a stunning indictment coming from a longtime political consul*tant who had toiled on five Republican presidential campaigns and numerous Senate and gubernatorial races. “The Republican Party has been a cartel,” Stevens said excitedly. “And no one asks a cartel, ‘What’s your ideological purpose?’ You don’t ask OPEC, ‘What’s your ideology?’ You don’t ask a drug gang, ‘What’s your program?’ The Republicans exist for the pursuit of power for no purpose.”
He huffed that the Republican Party had not merely drifted away from its core positions, as sometimes occurs with political parties: “Fair trade, balanced budgets, character, family values, standing up to foreign adversaries like Russia—we’re all against that now. You have to ask, ‘Does someone abandon deeply held beliefs in three or four years?’ No. It means you didn’t ever hold them.” He added: “I feel like a guy who was working for Bernie Madoff.”

Stevens, an erudite fellow who is also a novelist and a travel writer, has become an emblematic ex-Republican. He once believed in GOP ideals and ideas. Now he saw it all as a huge con. His new book is a confession and cri de coeur. The first line is blunt: “I have no one to blame but myself.” In these pages, Stevens self-flagellates, calling himself a “fool” for his decades of believing—and lying to himself—that the Republican Party was based on “a core set of values.” Acknowledging his role, Stevens writes, “So yes, blame me. Blame me when you look around and see a dysfunctional political system and a Republican Party that has gone insane.” The book offers one overarching prescription for the GOP: “Burn it to the ground and start over.”

So, I know that the Gridiron dinner is closed to cameras and C-SPAN. My question is...why? It seems like it's full of comedy and skits. Seems harmless. C-SPAN covers the Wide House Correspondent's Dinner every year which is kind of the same thing. Do they think it could be politically damaging to the President?

I don't know, except that expect from now on many events and meetings and so on that involve Republicans, Trump, and the GOP, in general, are going to be held behind closed doors.

How big a factor should racial equity be in deciding how to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine?

The U.S. is also underway in gathering recommendations for its own decision about whom to prioritize, from a body called the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACPI). Though there are emergency structures in place for allocating and targeting pandemic influenza vaccines, they need to be adjusted for the coronavirus’s unique characteristics and the risks it poses for specific populations. And, this year, equity and race have taken new roles in discussions, amid both the higher infection rate among minorities and revitalized talks of racial injustice in society. But experts say that, no matter how well-meaning the suggestion, it’s not as clear-cut as simply placing minorities at the front of the line.

Everyone in the country will eventually need a vaccination, but the mass manufacture process will likely be gradual, so the government has to decide how to deliver the doses. The U.S. has invested in many of the candidates—giving $1.2 billion to the joint venture by Oxford and AstraZeneca, $483 million to Moderna, and $456 to Johnson & Johnson, among others. “We recognize that public health authorities . . . will play a leading role in guiding which populations should be prioritized for immunization during the emergency pandemic based on their experience and expertise,” a Johnson & Johnson representative, Jake Sargent, told Fast Company in an email.

Oooooooooooh WBE! Got another one for you, a candidate looking to challenge Eric Swalwell. Meet Alison Hayden.

Here's the tweet that caught my attention.

You're either a political stooge or blind as a bat. Not only has @POTUS accomplished more than any other President in his first 4 years, he's opened the eyes of the world to the imbedded corruption in the system. We have a choice to fight or die. I choose #freedom's war. #JoinUs
Here's her celebrating mass gatherings during a pandemic.

Here's a reeeeeeeal notoriously bad one.

Surreal in #America! They can paint "Black Lives Matter" on a public street but not write in chalk on a sidewalk "Black Pre-Life Matters?" Have #WeThePeople gone mad?
I also see her retweet Qannon BS, so there you go.

Oh great, I scroll through their tweet history and then I find this guy, Buzz Patterson, running to unseat Democrat Ami Bera. This guy ain't so great either.

Here's him snapping at Hilary Clinton.

I can’t tell you the countless times I went to the golf course with your husband. He cheats, you know.

Here's him demanding that the country be reopened.

There's this bit with him attacking Biden.

Joe Biden is seriously considering a woman who hung out in Cuba as a part of the Communist revolution for much of her youth to be VP.

And they say that calling the Democrat Party “Communist” is too far?
Here's him promoting Brandon Straka, who uses the hashtag of RedPill in his Twitter Profile and started the hashtag WalkAway fake movement in 2018.

He's cited Breibart, promoted plenty of "Save America" rallies, and so on and so forth. I'll end this brief post with this tweet of his:

Liberals, we hated Obama just as much as you guys hate Trump.

The difference is we hated Obama because he hated America.

You hate Trump because YOU hate America.

Oh boy, another fun election season, WBE. >_>
