We know those who are the most outspoken, but there are others who have been keeping their heads down. I figure if I can come up with a fair and factual based assessment, it might be interesting to compare them.

I would be interested to see the results. I wouldnt even know where to look at those things outside of the people in my own area or as you said the big name people.

If I was going to create a ranking for politicians based on a democracy to autocracy scale, what woudl I be looking for?

For example, Congress, House and Senate, would I use voting history such as voting for or against voting rights legislation? And/or should I use outside activities and speeches and comments, such as if they showed support for the Jan 6 rioters or if they show support for the Jan 6 Commission?

What ways are there to tell if a Politician leans towards preserving the US democratic/republic form of government or if they lean towards some form of authoritarianism?

I've seen charts like this before which illustrate how far to each extreme various historical figures stand, but I know not what methodology they used:

Are you looking at doing this for the whole Congress? That sounds like a monumental task.

You'd probably need to come up with a fairly long list of qualifying questions, first. They could be yes/no or have a scale of, say, 1 to 5. To find out how democratic or autocratic each politician is, divide their score by the total possible score for each extreme.

Being or involving somebody who is knowledgeable in quantitative research might help as well. You might try contacting the people that made the graph above (politicalcompass.org) to find out how they came by their assessments.

I would look at both what they say and their voter record. Like do they speak out against what happened on the 6th and then vote against the commission to investigate it? Did they speak out against oppression and racisms then vote for voter restrictions? Do they speak about public safety then yell about mask and vaccine mandates? Do they talk about personal choice then vote for super restrictive abortion bills?

But to be honest at this point we know who really leans towards authoritarianism.

Yeah. Others might include: Their stance on church in school, on professional athletes' right to kneel during National Anthem at games, on qualified immunity, laws which restrict freedoms of press and/or speech, etc.

Oh, goody! It’s the “both sides are bad” argument again. Okay, show me an example of Democrats having proposed an equally insane plan similar to what’s going on in Wisconsin to ban dozens of words because it hurt their tender fee-fees like with Qpublicans.

Its crazy but if no one remembers the Midnight Rider situation ; there was a film coming about the life of Gregg Allman. William Hurt was to play him with Wyatt Russell.

Anyhow the people behind the scenes decided to not get permission or anything to film a scene on a railroad bridge. They didn't know a train was coming and a lady lost her life in that.

When I think of movie making tragedies, beyond The Crow the one I think of is Twilight Zone: The Movie, where the SPFX caused a helicopter to crash onto Vic Morrow and two Vietnamese children, killing them.

The both sides really falls flat here and I am glad you pointed that out. The GOP does crap like banning words and the show both sides crap like in Texas. Then when they are called on it they go "Well the Dems cancel us and oppress us all the time." How? "Well they wont let us spread lies about the election and engage in hate speech!"

Not to mention the incubation period - one can be infected and not know it. I'll admit that masks for the vaccinated seem more about denying the plague rats a lie to hide behind, but that's because of them ruining things for the rest of us rather than anything else.

Yep that one violated rules as well with children. The child labor laws I believe for child actors who were involved from what I remember. This one went for a few years and pretty much ended the John Landis/Steven Spielberg friendship. (both men had became friends and did films together or showed up in spots)

Protect yourself? This virus makes it impossible to do that alone. We all have to depend on others doing the right thing as well. My mask doesn't protect me. It protects you from catching my germs whether they have Covid or just a common flu. That's why we had a relatively mild flu season last year. Everyone wore masks when we went out in public. But now we have people intentionally going out maskless and intentionally coughing on other people. They know what they're doing, even if they won't admit to it publicly.

Saw this last night. Jordan Klepper of Comedy Central went to a recent Trump rally. As if we didn't know already, the level of Trump devotion isn't going away anytime soon. Their delusions are just astonishing. IMO this is what happens to middle-aged and elderly people who have no experience on the internet and get hooked on the various RW conspiracy blogs, etc. Things will get worse if Trump gets his media company going. But I'm hoping since he's such an incompetent businessman who notoriously stiffs people and companies of the money owed to him that it may not get launched right away.
